Why the shortage then on a Sunday of all days. They could have put it down to engineering works if it was because of a blockade but attributed It down to a rolling stock issue.

Has reliability got worse or has there been a a lot of freak incidents? There's so many spare units that they really should not have an issue ever unless they have very bad luck or there is a fleet issue based on their ppm.

Perhaps someone can give us the latest figures?

Couldn’t say really but it is extremely rare. The only plausible reason I can think of is that the engineering blockade complicated things for some reason. Looks like some caped services later in the day got reinstated.

Caught a 755 dragging a failed 745 out of Ipswich this morning. Not sure how frequently these fail, but I guess a lucky catch.

That's 755416 which I dispatched from Crown Point on Tuesday morning to rescue 745004. 745004 has since been repaired and is back in traffic again.

Here's 755411 dragging 745105 north through Ely in heavy rain, heading for Norwich Crown Point via Thetford on 20th October 2025. I don't know if the 745 had failed or not (this was a Monday after weekend engineering work on the WAML further south, so it's possible it was fall-out from that). The working was 5P98, 1210 Stansted Down Goods Loop to Norwich C.Pt. T.&R.S.M.D

745004 returned to service on the 23:05 to Ipswich.

17/20 745’s in service today mostly all of the /0’s apart from 009.

745109 working 1B88 has came to a stand outside of Broxbourne for a few hours now. Somehow the driver cannot rectify the fault.

15:36 Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport blocked everything at Broxbourne. This has completely stopped all services running on the West Anglia end pretty much ever since. Rescue train is being coupled up at the moment, that's going to be a nice long drag.

Can only imagine the amount of people who missed their flight. Also very noticeable that not even a limited rail replacement bus service is running which is shocking for a service to an airport and something needs to be done about this, passengers deserve better. GA used to at least try and get buses previously.

745109 has finally cleared Broxbourne, left around 5am.

It’s either been propelled to Orient way or crown point via Thetford due to engineering works between Ipswich & Norwich.

A 4-car 755 is rated at 2574hp/1920kW on diesel, about the same as a class 47 (but the 755 is about 40t heavier), so it's quite a decent tug/Thunderbird.

Couldn't find an active 745 thread (and this has been used for 745s so I think its fine). Does anyone know what has happened to 745106? Its in a bit of a state in Crown Point at the moment. Coupler being replaced?

745106 was involved with a one under at Meridian Water back in March, the unit is long termed stopped pending repairs to the cab and parts that have been robbed from it have been replaced.

So the 745 fleet that was presumably already rather tight has one out for the medium term? I presume stocking parts is challenging due to the volume of different components that might be needed?
