Congrats mate. How was it compared to the MMI?
Thanks! It was definitely different, less structured and intense but I did do my MMI with GTR I have heard the MMI is a little different with southeastern but wouldn’t know. The 2 guys were very friendly and made sure that I was comfortable as they wanted the best out of me. Overall more like a traditional interview compared to the rest of the process

Got offers for both. No news about any start dates for either so will go with whatever comes first, although Thameslink looks like they won’t be till mid next year (not official of course). SE at Dartford is my local station so preferred in that case. SE know about it and are very supportive of whatever I decide
Id take TL over SE all day if you do have to choose. The money is much better and sundays are outside so you can bump your money up a lot there.

Yeah it’s definitely my preferred option, going to wait to make a proper decision se are happy for me to keep it open till they give me a date for start. Handy and a massive privilege to have the option

That’s a great position to be in. Do you know how long you would have to make a decision once an offer is made?

I’d imagine it’s pretty quickly after a date has been given. Thankfully southeastern have been amazing about it and they’re happy to leave it open until I make a decision and just to keep them updated!

As a SE driver who didn't follow up a chance to transfer to TL about 8 years ago I have never regretted staying at SE. Yes we're a bit behind with pay although that has improved considerably over the last 3 years or so. But money is not everything to consider. SE get quite a bit of stick on these forums for certain things. You could do a lot worse I think, and I've been here since BR days.

That's good to hear, I certainly think location has a lot to do with it too, im literally 2 miles from my chosen depot.

Money isn't everything being able to get home in 10 mins instead of an hour on a train and bus is a lot more appealing.

Good to know! It’s definitely a hard one to make, the money is the lowest of my priorities definitely due to the fact that without this id have never seen this kind of money, but I know a few people at SE and they are full of great things and absolutely love it. How close it is is definitely a factor. The team at Orpington for TL were absolutely incredible with me and I’ve spoken to a few of them too so there’s no massive outlier at the moment. The distance is further but not that far. Not quite sure what will happen but I’m sure it’ll be fine

Absolutely, it’s the same job and I’ll be happy either way. Saw you’re down for August, hope it goes well mate
Medical up London tomorrow mate, hopefully that's okay, then I'll be handing my notice in next week. I saw Jack and Scott at Dartford who really put me at ease, Exactly like you money isn't everything because when fully qualified I'll be jumping up a lot.

I’ve been reading through the comments about the functional skills and I’ll be honest I got a GCSE F in maths! Only because I was a lazy student when I was a kid and hated maths. How much help do you get when you start the course, is there an assessment at the end that you must pass?

The revised salary progression for new starters will therefore be:
  • £33,510 on joining the programme.
  • £59,366 once you have completed your first driving turn and successfully achieved your Apprenticeship End Point Assessment.
  • £68,958 after a further 12 months' service as a fully qualified Driver, subject to meeting the required criteria in line with our Terms and Conditions.

The functional skills test is nothing to worry about, some parts are easy, others I didn’t have a clue about (working out the area of a cylinder, etc)
I didn’t use a calculator and just muddled through it, guessed a lot of the answers tbh.
I had a video call with my Learner coach a few days after and nothing was mentioned and nothing has been mentioned since.
To join a Apprenticeship scheme before the change, you had to have a minimum C grade in English and maths but now that’s changed, it’s no longer required.

Nice one mickey cheers, I was bricking it for a minute! I’ve ordered a couple of books anyway, no harm in brushing up on it! I’m itching to get started, need clearance from Medigold first after my heart attack in may but every thing is looking good at the moment. How far through are you now?

Just got Mod 5 exam left next Tuesday, then 3 days off before traction starts.
Good luck with everything.

Had my DMI today, pleased to say I got a positive call and I’ve been offered the role. No training dates as of yet but understand it’ll probably be January. Thanks all for anything posted on this forum, it’s helped a lot

Looking forward to the traction? Last time I asked you said your group was solid in terms of no1 dropping out or failing modules. Is that still the case?
