Isn’t it curious that the most prominent right-wing politician in the country has fallen afoul of the faceless officials who uphold parliamentary standards? Seeing as a few years ago, the then most prominent right-wing politician in the country, Boris Johnson, also fell afoul of the same people. Crikey, what are the chances!
The official who decided Johnson‘s fate was one Sue Grey, respected for her great impartiality. That’s the same Sue Grey who immediately took a job for the Labour Party (which she was terrible at). In days gone by, when adults behaved like adults, a party leader would have refused to have had Grey working for them, on the basis that “justice must not just be done, it must be seen to be done”. But this is Keir Starmer we are talking about, probably the most sanctimonious and conceited man ever to have been prime minister- which is saying something. He feels he is such a virtuous man that rules do not apply to him.
Gosh, I wonder why many people of a conservative disposition do not entirely trust the parliamentary standards process. Some may even think it’s all a method of control designed to prevent elected politicians from rocking the boat- but of course that would be a conspiracy theory!
Still, at least there’s the jury system to protect against the most egregious abuses…oh wait, Labour have been trying to abolish that…purely for administrative reasons, you understand. I said as soon as that was announced, “they will put Farage on trial for something and he will not have a jury”. That is why it is being done. Isn’t it interesting that another controversial politician, Alex Salmond, was put on trial for terrible crimes- and acquitted on all counts by a jury.
If Farage has accepted a dodgy pile of cash, the answer is simple- don’t vote for him. Ever since this became a story, he has been declining in the polls- the public do not like shady dealings.
I sure look forward to being exhorted to lay down my life for “our democracy” in the event of a war with Russia!
