"Trivia" Through stations with extremely few passenger trains which do not call

so, with the Lowland sleeper that is 4 non-stops... Looks like Newton Abbott, Coventry and Prestatyn (p.s. and Wolves) win with just 1 train not calling per day each? Preston has the sleeper in each direction.
(I don't think trains on diversions really count, and NTA looks like it might be sneaking in with a summer Saturday timetable train.)
edit - plus Colchester!
Also these stations have one train a day not calling: Glan Conwy, Dolgarrog, Pont y Pant, Dolwyddelan, Roman Bridge (the 0515 Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog)

Prestatyn is one a week, not one a day, so it beats these.

I think Redhill might be a good one.
If we discout everything going via the Quarry (fast) lines and only look at what passes through the station. Here are the passenger trains that seem to not stop Mon-Fri: (working from midnight to midnight in my list)
1H72 at 00:36
9N17 at 00:40
9N04 at 01:54
9N01 at 02:20
9N08 at 02:54
9N05 at 03:20
9N12 at 03:54
9N09 at 04:20
9N14 at 04:27
1G98 at 05:05
9N13 at 05:23
1W92 at 05:37
9N15 at 05:40
1G01 at 05:53
1F71 at 23:34
9N16 at 23:41
1A66 at 23:56
There is also loads of freight, many empties, and all sorts of weird services in the data, but these are the only regular passenger trains to non-stop, for the day I looked at.
SE diversions non-stop Redhill, as do fast trains when diverted if the Quarry lines are shut.
Surely fast lines count as passing through unless they are properly separated from the station (like Didcot)?

Otherwise there are LOADS of stations where trains pass on the fast lines.

At Redhill, the fast lines are completely seperate for a number of miles. I think they were built at different times by different companies.

I hope it's not a contravention of any forum rules to post a screenshot of Google Maps. Slow lines through Redhill in yellow. Fast - Quarry - lines in Red:

Having done some (very) quick research it seems the Redhill lines were buit in 1841, and the Quarry lines to bypass the bottleneck in the 1890s.

Newton Abbot is served by every train except the 1C79 1203 Paddington to Penzance. It is also skipped by certain services if they are running late. I was on a very delayed 1V66 1404 Edinburgh to Plymouth service last night that skipped Taunton, Tiverton Parkway, Totnes and Newton Abbot.

I saw Taunton was mentioned earlier in the thread but Totnes is only skipped by a few services in the morning peak in addition to the very fast 1C79 and 1M92.

I stand corrected, I never knew that.

Perhaps there is scope for a seperate thread - "Stations where passengers are regularly overcarried" - if there has not already been one.
The only time this passenger was overcarried was at London Bridge - unfortunately in the down direction.

Surely on most suburban lines this must apply to virtually every station? In Glasgow for example every stop is served on the Paisley Canal Line, the East Kilbride branch, and virtually all of the North Clyde/Argyle Lines?
They therefore don’t qualify- there needs to be a minimum of one train booked to run through non-stop.

Since the object is to find those stations where very few (but not no) trains do not stop, anywhere with fast lines is unlikely to qualify.

In that case, Anniesland, Hyndland, Partick, Exhibiton Centre and Anderston have the Sleeper- although it keeps getting diverted.

Cottingham, Beverley, Driffield and Bempton, the only train that does not stop at these is the 0530 Hull - Scarborough

When did the sleeper go via Glasgow Central?

Anderston gets skipped on Sundays before around 10am & after 18;15odd. Similar with Argyle Street

Apologies, I’d forgotten the sleeper, which allows quite a lot of central lowland stations to qualify.

Has Bolton been mentioned?

Bolton has most trains calling - both Northern & TransPennine Express - except for a couple of non-stopping Glasgow/Edinburgh - Man Apt services in the morning peak & a couple of Airport - GLC/EDB in the pm peak.

There is a small handful of other TPE Scottish train around the start or late in the day with no Bolton stop in the public timetable. These are routed via Parkside (route retention purposes?) so these don't pass through Bolton at all.

In the 1960s, I would say that Inverkeithing would qualify- less so today, as the Aberdeen trains no longer stop. But there was one oddity; an Edinburgh to Dunfermline service (posslibly Saturday only) that didn't stop here.

I was going to suggest somewhere like Paddock Wood or Headcorn where, pre-HS1, there were loads of non-stop trains on the fast lines. But I'm not sure that they now have any passenger trains which go through without stopping.

That could be another piece of trivia: which stations have fast lines which are never used?

Can anyone explain why the powers that be would schedule every train except for one to stop at a particular station?
Could be several reasons.
That one train might be the only express booked by that route (Caledonian Sleeper via Bathgate comes to mind if it still goes that way). The train in question might be a peak hour extra that can only “find” a path across a couple of junctions if it misses out a couple of stops in between. At either end of the day it may even be that the station is still / already locked up (or indeed unlit). Sure there are others…

Wellington (Shropshire) and Telford Central also fit here.
One train in each direction on Sunday only skips these stations (18:25 Holyhead to Birmingham International and 22:40 Birmingham International to Chester)

Sometimes stations are missed to target passengers to/from other stations that might otherwise get overwhelmed. Especially in commuter land.

I was thinking the same...

Does a service that ceased operating about 15 years ago really count?

On that note, what timeframe are we talking about here, current services or previous, in which case we're opening a whole can of worms...
Focus is very much on current services but the odd mention of a historical example of a rare "non stopper" is an interesting bonus. I believe there was a rare example (or rare examples) of diverted trains going through BHM rather than Bescot when the WCML was blocked by the previous bridge collapse between Rugby and Nuneaton. I don't, however, have any corroborating details.

LNER Middlesbrough services (once per day in each direction) are the only ones skipping Eaglescliffe, and those and Grand Central are the only ones skipping Yarm (14 skipping Yarm against ~35 calling, so admittedly not a small proportion).

I think the criteria needs narrowing down a bit, if we're including ad-hoc diverts, then almost every busy through in the country would be in with a shot!

Every train on the Yorkshire Coast line stops at Cottingham and Beverley except the 0530 Hull - Scarborough which runs fast between Hull and Bridlington.

Slightly off topic but every northbound Hull Trains service calls at Retford except the 1113 Kings Cross - Hull on Sunday's. The Mon-Fri 1708 Hull - Kings Cross also doesn't call there.

It was a late night Waterloo to Basingstoke, something like 2242 or 2312, but that may have changed since I last knew about it.

Here it is, the 2312
There’s also an early morning weekdays up train Basingstoke to Waterloo, passes before 0600. Also about a dozen or so ECS moves which of course wouldn’t be in scope of this thread.

It's tricky to find a form of words which wouldn't exclude fairly regular planned diversions which may merit a mention. As it's turned out, the vast majority of posts have cited booked journeys rather than diverted journeys even though my attempt at attention grabbing Post #1 was admittedly a bit of a stretch! So I'd say that a fairly pragmatic and helpful interpretation of the topic has emerged in spite of the somewhat open-ended way I worded it.

Uphall has 2 non stop passenger services, the West Highland sleeper in both directions, otherwise always served.
On that note - a shout out for Glasgow Queen Street (Low Level of course - non-stop through the High Level would make headlines!)

The Highland Sleeper (for Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen) passes Coventry.
Not sure if anything passes Birmingham Airport
Not anymore but there used to be a single Avanti service per day which ran non-stop from New Street to Euston, dep 07:30 arr 08:43 IIRC, I used it a number of times. There was no equivalent return working.

I think it was one of the services lost during COVID and never re-introduced.
