Realtime Trains shows 230001 has been running the service and pretty much bang on time all day so far. It looks like whatever the charging system "issue" was last week has been fixed.

Oh good I'm glad about that. :D

Mind you, I had got used to ride a 165 with green interiors so am prepared either way.

Where the plot may thicken is that I may decide to go to east London next week - and use my National Express sale ticket - but rebook west London in the summer so that I can get a flight home from Heathrow, but this is digressing.

I wonder whether it has been out today, and if not, whether it could be back by next Saturday.
Yes it was out all day yesterday (Saturday 21st March) and is due to be back out again on Saturday 28th March and every Saturday thereafter for the foreseeable.

I got in a quick ride on it today, having run out of Class 455's to bash. I think it could be a good innovation; while the D78 Stock is a little rough and ready as platforms go, I think they could have a future on the quieter branch lines of the GWR network. Cheap to deliver and now a well-tested concept, they should be good for 10-15 years in service to prove it further.
Could you pass that on to the DfT and GWR senior management please ;)

Thank you, I was able to ride it yesterday :D

While it was quite slow, it is a welcome initiative.

If anything, I can catch a flight home from Heathrow when I ride electric buses from Surrey to Heathrow later in the year, or in connection with my next Hounslow/Kingston bus trip.

Thanks both, yes when I posted the allocation wasn't there, it is now. I wonder why there was such a delay in the data, the first train was running when I posted

2G18/19 cancelled today, not for any issue with the 230. The late running 6C03 was routed over Drayton Green Junction in front of 2G18 and held on 229 signal for 12 mins waiting for a path on the mainline. Unfortunately the back of it was still in Drayton Green station! If the freight had been held on 226 signal for three mins the 230 could have got through and no need to cancel a trip. A bit of a whoopies from the signaller there!

Given the discussion a few pages back about the D stock units still in storage, I thought I'd post this year-old YouTube video that I've just come across.

It's from an urban explorer channel documentaing a visit to the storage yard where the the stock is being kept. The group clearly don't have much information about these trains, but I though some may like to see their condition as of 12 months ago.

Edit: I'll just get this in before something is perhaps posted. While they have entered private property without permission, as far as I'm aware, they've not broken the law taking this footage. In England and Wales at least, transpass by itself isn't a criminal offence.

230001 won't be operating this coming Saturday 16th May unfortunately, due to DOO issues. Should be back out again on Saturday 23rd May.

When 230001 does run, does it operate the morning/evening runs into Paddington, or is this still worked by a 165?

The 165 does the Paddington runs and stables in the sidings at West Ealing all day

The 165 runs ECS Pad to West Ealing LMD and then ECS back to Reading TCD when the 230 gets back to West Ealing LMD

When the 230 is operating there are no runs in service to Paddington as of yet and the last trip is retimed from 2204 to 2215 from Greenford

It seemed to fail halfway through Saturday 20th... any updates on it?

DOO Cameras again and air con leaking in saloon, as far as I know it’s still not been failed for anything major or broken down yet, the DOO camera fault is quite annoying but when they are working correctly they are pretty good
