Yes Leicester station is gated, its about time they got started on the track upgrade from Syston to Wigston, had to run wrong line the other day sandwiched between to freight trains.

Yes steam will be back because of the war, Oil, bio, nuclear no longer available so no electricity other than for lighting parliament , government will nationalize all steam locos from heritage railways, coal will be mined again, no diesel left as all of them were melted down for the war...

Knock a few hundred houses down, move the M1 sideways here and there, had a good few bridges, open up a number of cuttings, and I am only mentioning Leicestershire !!

The old Great Central Line from Leicester to Bicester, what a tragic shame.

With out doubt the one I mentioned earlier The Sidings at Shipton York on the East Coast main line, must be the best and definitely purpose built, look it up. Its a pity some of the demolished signal boxes couldn't have been retain for viewing, perhaps NR could have donated some !!

Its well South just North of York. You can get a good meal there with a view from your seat in an old carriage straight onto the four tracks

Going to take up to a week more to reopen, the up slow side of the track across fields requires a roadway being put in to get the heavy lifting gear in, closure of all 4 lines required from mid evening until 6.30 am. Pictures by Leicester Mercury have been rubbish

Too old, I did not say when third rail applied only that I don't like the looks of the third rail as part of the permanent way, + I don't like the overhead wires also. :roll:

Thats about the same for me only I go back a little earlier the 50s, the big difference to me these days is the age of the groups on the ends of the platforms, was 15 year olds now 60 year olds. Don't record numbers but love the ambience of the railway, prefer rail enthusiast to spotter.
