Yes, it's highly unfortunate but you couldn't show a valid ticket when asked to do so, it's a slam dunk penalty fare. There may be some technical reason why it's invalid so post it up and let the experts have a look. You've nothing to lose by appealing but I wouldn't be getting my hopes up.

Just seen a 10-car TPE 802 formation go through Leeds, empty. All TPE towards York cancelled for the next couple of hours. Going to sit in Leeds with a pint for a bit and probably go Northern to York, possibly via Harrogate.

I did think, based on the photos accompanying the article, "that doesn't look so bad". There's space to sit in vestibules. It's not a crush-loaded train, I've been on way worse than that. It's not great either and I wouldn't want to be doing it on a regular basis.

Various bits of Leeds must count. I was getting the 1730 Fenton Flyer to York this evening from 11B. Very narrow and congested, and not all that busy today because of the holidays. It can be a VERY busy train (especially if TPE has fallen over).

Thanks for this, I must have gone past it dozens of times and not noticed until today. I get that the OFF indicator isn't there for drivers, but presumably they can use it if they can actually see it properly - it must be interlocked with the signal? I'm sure I've seen this with freights coming...

I did think that, but didn't jump out to check how it looks... I wonder if there might also be a sighting issue for drivers if they're approaching that signal at red on trains that don't stop there.

Cross Gates seems to have acquired an "OFF" indicator on the Down platform. Not sure why, but presume there must be a reason.

I suppose you could argue that East Garforth should never have built, but since it already exists I doubt it would be politically possible to close it. It's fairly well-used, 185,360 entries/exits in 2024/25.

To me, this is just bizarre. I know we see loads of issues here with e.g. Vauxhall to Waterloo tickets. But Mauldeth Road to Manchester seems like a totally reasonable journey to take. Are they really suggesting that only fare evaders would do that rather than take a slower and less comfortable...

While this is generally true, in the case of XC they are already running the longer trains, but often with half the train locked out of use because of staffing constraints.

If you had a seat reservation, you should be able to get something from them. And even if you didn't, given you were in standard premium it's worth asking. I think you'd get on to their customer services but others might have more specific advice.

Don't know if it's weather related but my York - Leeds train (0921 York to Manchester Airport) has been put in the platform loop at Church Fenton and doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon...
