How to doom a trial to fail…

Just booked onto the Pullman from Exeter in a few weeks time - surprised to see only 5 places left this far out!

It always strikes me that the design of US commuter rail is basically stuck in the 1950's.

Probably because they have an eye on costs for which they're now wholly responsible for?

You may well be right but...the waiting area in DC is definitely not in the nice bit! It's just the deep contrast that seems odd to me. Even an airbridge is well kept, its not exposed concrete, puddles and so on.

Returning to the original topic, I was just posting pics from my trip online and these neatly illustrate my point. I find it hard to imagine that the platforms were this dismal originally when so much money was evidently spent on the rest of Washington DC’s Union station.

Likewise with check in facilities which are currently all staffed by Eurostar.

Is there any chance the line will be opening earlier than had been expected? I note that journey planners are showing trains running normally on Saturday.

Say that’s one fewer space for someone stand in per two rows and that adds up to a lot fewer standing places per train on services which are already at capacity in many instances.

Personally I’d far rather have plug sockets than new seats. I always choose a Southern train where I can so I can have a plug socket and table (or use the declassified first on Thameslink).

If they eliminated the food I guarantee you the prices would remain the same. I would bet the cost of food and drink provided would amount to no more than a few pounds.
