Hi Alex,
Assuming you are here, I have only just seen your message which is very frustrating. I have all but given up now and thrown the project under my desk.
Regards,
Bob.
It depends on how you view it, the big train builders build a standard cigar tube and bolt on a cab or a intercar end, they don't like specials they are expensive to design and build with a limited market
Hi,
Thank heavens for constructive comment at last, I'm at the stage now where I need hand drawns turned into cad and then mock up, this is no pie in the sky project and I'm hoping it will go to at least prototype stage, if it isn't taken up it will be a shame. Thanks for your interest,
TD
Firstly,
If you had conceived this design would you make it public before it was protected? Secondly we are two years down the line now because of illness! Thirdly the reason there is no mock up is purely money, nobody is interested in investing as we are in the uk and a breed of accountants...
Good evening all,
Is there anyone here who would like to be involved in a uk double deck train project? I have registered designs and am waiting to see where we go next, this is not pie in the sky and comes from a very experienced railman, next stage mock-up which means money!!
Thanks for that Old timer, i am working to 3912mm rail to top of roof curve, although i have achieved an acceptable space within the vehicles i wouldnt mind another 50-100mm, if you do have any info re clearence for a route either inner London or maybe Thameslink that would be great.
Thanks very much Planner, i know this is available at vast expense !! I have designed a Duplex for the UK using C1 static gauge, but if theres an extra xx mm to be had its a shame not to use it !
I was a type test engineer on the 460's in 99-2002 when we were introducing them, they are now a well sorted and reliable EMU, what a shame to split them up at all but to put them into a 458 (which i also commishioned) is an insult !!! Its a real sham engineers dont run our railways instead of...
Jason, thanks for the very informative contribution, its a very tedious process is tendering, i am aware of the situation and how the process has to be seen to be fair, i can also guess at how it works in reality with the big 4 manufacturers. It just seems a crying shame to my simple brain that...
Well said John0,
Sadly getting an order for this design from a TOC or ROSCO is unlikly as i am not a member of "the club" with the big 3 manufacturers, even though they are not interested in building these trains as they will be deviating from there standerd build, i.e Electrostar, Desiro ect.
I was a type test/commissioning engineer on the 375/377 fleet and used to get loads of problems with LIM trips due to 3rd rail ice and line contacters opening due to the package overheating as the cooling ducts were choked with snow.
Yes getting in there may be a problem, although if im exibiting once i have payed for the stand i'm in ! Cant see Alstom, Bombardier and co being keen though !
Hi Paul,
No its not, i have met with a chap called Rutter at DCA in Stratford and this was discussed, there is no space for 2x2 seating on the lower deck in the uk.
Sorry Greenback i dont mean to be rude, its just some of the expressions used here (pushing my ideas) get to me. I am trying very hard to get the mock-up to Railtex next year, i believe climbing aboard it is better than any drawings!!
