How long will the Class 158 & 159 soldier on for?

Surely if 450s were to be used why not use the withdrawn 350/2 and convert them to 3rd rail and battery equipment. Plus the seating could be configured to a 2+2 seating.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

How many companies could allow all their staff to work from home or for them to be on holiday. Don’t forget August is the most expensive time to go on holiday in this country.

BR Brutes (are there any left?)

On the same topic with brutes that I haven’t seen since the end of slam door stock at Waterloo station is a tug with a water bowser attached to it. For filling the mk1 coach toilet water tanks.

    Square national rail tickets

Since the topic is about railway tickets. Can anyone remember the last time they were given a Edmondson railway ticket. Mind was from Winchester to Eastleigh return must be around 1988/89 if I remember correctly. Thanks

    Square national rail tickets

I remember a long time ago being issued with a square ticket from a hand held machine on the concourse due to the ticket machine being out of order and the ticket office being closed.

Steamlined Trains v End Door Fronted Trains.

Just wonder how much faster than 100 mph do you need to go in this country apart from the HS1/HS2 and the East and West coast main line and possible the main line to the West Country.

Steamlined Trains v End Door Fronted Trains.

I remember travelling on mk1 stock (VEP/CEP) and being able to walk through to the next unit and being able to see the unit speedo showing the units speed.

How long will the Class 158 & 159 soldier on for?

Class 158 and 159 have now been around for a considerable amount of time. From memory, 158s were built between 1989 and 1992 and 159s were with between 1992 and 1993. I wonder how many more years before we see these units withdraw from service, or will they soldier on for many more years...

    Anyone live beside the railway.

My house isn’t that far from the main line at Winchester. Always remember listening at night to the VEP traction motors singing way. Happy day’s

Trivia: Stations which have had platforms removed.

Eastleigh had four platforms back in the 1980s then lost platform 1 when the station was remodelled.

If a Class 442 was to be kept for charter work...

What about putting diesel power units under the coaches and running them on the West of England service Via Basingstoke and reclassifying them 742,s :)

    Mid Hants Railway Footbridges

Non of the stations including Itchen Abbas had a footbridge. Even the footbridge at Alton was a secondhand Bridge. From memory I think I read somewhere it possibly came from Guildford station.

    Mid Hants Railway Footbridges

MHR News did an article regarding about all three footbridges back in 2018/19.

Trivia - abandoned railways with intact track

From memory there is still some track running next to a footpath between Radstock and a village called Kilmersdon.

Class 442s - Now at the end of the road and to be withdrawn permanently

Plus why are they still being moved from Eastleigh to Wolverton Works for. Can’t be cheap to move them between Eastleigh and Wolverton.
