I suppose when you're talking of a train from Manchester to King's Cross it's better to link it with the Harry Potter storyline than to be perfectly accurate (and I'm also thinking it's highly likely that she doesn't remember the day in question because it's fairly...
According to JK Rowling, the Harry Potter series was first conceived on a delayed train from Manchester to London King's Cross in 1990.
I'm curious, did such services run in 1990, was it a one-off due to engineering work instead, or was this just a mistake that the average person just misses...
Good luck, but don't beat it! It's one of the records I still have.
By reports, I mean tell us all the lucky, unlucky, silly and clever things that happened, not the train timings - most people don't bother keeping those. Whether you ran into a closing door, or got lost, or something along...
Bags on seats - there's a simple solution to that dilemma. Sit in the aisle seat. As the train fills up, everyone will avoid you until the last few seats are being taken, by which point if you still don't let someone sit next to you, there's something desperately wrong with you.
I commit a few...
Vauxhall, any day. Factoring in interchange time at Clapham Junction, the crawl into Victoria and how crowded it is, Vauxhall. Even at off-peak times it's so much more pleasant to change at Vauxhall.
Bak/Vic at Waterloo is the best of the other options.
Well, Canada Water is really close! Plus if you stand in the correct place on the Jubilee Line platforms, you can get phone signal. Ordinary 2G phone signal. Agree with you about Canary Wharf, Waterloo and West Ham. Stratford, though, that's not far unless you're at the wrong end of the train...
Add Harringay Green Lanes, South Tottenham, Walthamstow QR and Woodgrange Park to that list for the GOBLIN.
South Hampstead and South Kenton on the Watford DC lines.
When looking at the layout maps of Shepherd's Bush station on the West London Line, this came up as one of the pictures of the southbound platform.
Does anyone know how what I'm guessing is a London Midland Class 350 came to appear at Shepherd's Bush? Especially in LM livery, and seemingly in...
Everything currently on the map in one direction, plus the North Curve (only managed in one direction), the Kennington Loop, Battersea Park on LO, the Northern City Line (as currently) and the Point Pleasant/East Putney Curve (not LU, but worth doing all the same).
Now visiting the stations...
That's not in one station, though!
Waterloo and City at Bank to District Line eastbound at Monument, perhaps? Or to the DLR if the District at Monument doesn't count.
Waterloo Jubilee to anything else is of similar length, though since there are travelators, not so long of a walk.
King's...
Are you doing this on a weekday?
If so, take the eastbound Circle/H&C to Moorgate instead, then take the Govia Great Northern service (may be marked British Rail or First Capital Connect) to Essex Road, which is quite a bit closer than Angel.
If it is a weekend, Essex Road will be closed...
