Are you doing this on a weekday? If so, take the eastbound Circle/H&C to Moorgate instead, then take the Govia Great Northern service (may be marked British Rail or First Capital Connect) to Essex Road, which is quite a bit closer than Angel. If it is a weekend, Essex Road will be closed...
