This is a view of the rails in platforms 7 & 8 at Carlisle. The welds on the railheads are quite well worn down and replacements are ready to go in (pre welded).
Since the line was supposed to have been constructed with wiring in mind, they may have a change of mind and wire the lot to get electric trains running as soon as possible! But this is speculation territory!
A right to access onto a neighbouring property to maintain your property (eg walls and fences) exists within Gail on Easments. But as I said in the above post that access would not be straightforward and, as far as the railway would be concerned, it may be easier and cheaper for them to do it...
If I said to NR that I was going into their land to prune my trees and that it would take ‘z’ amount of time as and when I was available to carry it out, I think that they’d soon have an injunction preventing me from trespassing on operational land. In that case, I’d put the onus back on them...
Does the railway not have powers similar to the electricity companies who can prune trees which are in danger of adversely affecting their undertaking? Even the local area distribution network operators have a regime of inspection and cutting back foliage which is approaching their power lines...
I thought the engines shutting down was a result of BR using non-original parts to save a few quid. Wasn’t this discovered by GEC when they got the engine overhaul contract?

Two thoughts come to mind:
1 Are the actual container weights used or is an average used? In other words, would it make a difference if all of the containers were loaded with baked beans rather than a mix of baked beans and paper tissues?
2 The train weight was established some years ago before...
The Japanese manage to have all seats facing in the same direction on some trains such as Shinkansens and express trains to and from Narita airport. The one I took from Narita into Tokyo discharged all passengers when it arrived at the airport then all doors shut, I watched through the window as...
If taken to Kingmoor, they’d have to move it again to get it to an electrified line each time they wanted to charge the batteries/ charge the air accumulators etc incurring more charges. Probably better to leave it on the back road in the station unless the siding’s suddenly needed for something...
