How to check for "& Connections" before buying Advance?

Thanks for this. Sadly, all legs are reservable. Any suggestions of how to add 60 or 90 minutes extra change time at St Pancras but not at Derby?

How to check for "& Connections" before buying Advance?

How does one find out, before booking a ticket, whether a particular leg of a multi-leg Advance will be tied to a specific service, or allow the flexibility of "& Connections"? I am trying to book an Advance from St Albans, changing at St Pancras and Derby, to Matlock. The passenger would like...

"Mini Switzerland" trial - a good use of £12m?

I have read the suggestion that where there is a clear tidal flow, the Swiss will align rhe buses to the major rail flow (flipping the pattern some time between the two peaks), with DRT-style services for the minor flow.

"Mini Switzerland" trial - a good use of £12m?

Re-reading the plan, I am having real difficulty in seeing how it is actually going to deliver the easy interchanges described, even when everything is running to time. Is there some other documentation that I haven't seen? AIUI, the plan does not involve modifications to roads (beyond the odd...

"Mini Switzerland" trial - a good use of £12m?

Coordination is so much harder than it sounds. I was at Matlock on a recent Sunday and saw the hourly Transpeak bus to Buxton pull away from the railway station just as the hourly train was pulling in. Before plotting a complaint, I thought I had better check timetables. The non-comnection...

"Mini Switzerland" trial - a good use of £12m?

Does anyone else share my concerns that the Mini Switzerland scheme in Derbyshire isn't going to provide very useful learning in return for its £12m investment? (Note - £12m, not the widely-quoted £6m, as page 32 of this document shows that the government's £6m is matched by £6m from the East...

Expansion of LNER 70-min flex trial area ("Simpler Fares")

Pushing people from flexible to fixed-train journeys (whether through imposing reservations-only or by pricing them off flexible tickets) is really bad for national productivity. The rational HS2 passenger on a fixed-train ticket will spend upwards of 30 minutes travelling at 0mph before their...

    Adding Railcard to Oyster

Have they fixed the problem where 3-year railcards were issued with validity of 3 ys 7 days (presumably to allow for time in the post) but TfL machines wouldn't register anything with expiry more than 3 yrs 0 days ahead?

EMR to introduce reduced Inter City service from Monday 20th July

EMR have some cheek. Shorten the 1902 then warn people that it will be really busy. That isn't becuase 1902 is a particularly popular time to travel, but more because it is the first train after the afternoon blackout on which they allow offpeak and superoffpeak tickets. That is a fecision...

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

What a hapless outfit. They shorten the 1902 to Derby and Sheffield, but leave the ticket rules so that, despite the reduction in capacity, it is still the first offpeak service after the long afternoon blackout, and then flag it as the only northbound service qualifying for the flag "Services...

Adjusting recorded announcements to station specifics?

At 0620 this morning, a recorded announcement boomed out at Matlock station, reminding passengers to look after their bags, and to keep clear of the platform edge because fast trains might come through at speed. With the first train just departed, it would be over an hour before the next train...

    EMR inventing new restrictions?

Below a list of cancellations for Tue-Fri this week. EMR have this note: If you hold an 'Advance' ticket for a train listed above, you may use your ticket at no extra cost on East Midlands Railway services two hours earlier or two hours later than your original train. Are they OK to restrict...

Delay Repay if I travel early and get delayed

What is the entitlement to Delay Repay here, please? A passenger was intending to use the return half of a SuperOffpeak ticket (Matlock-London) on the 1902 (first after blackout) from St Pancras last Friday. EMR cancelled the 1902 and allowed travel on previous two trains. Passenger caught...

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

EMR has apparently arranged ticket acceptance with LNER, Lumo and Hull Trains out of Kings Cross tonight. The website suggests otherwise, but their Customer Service centre has just told me that there is acceptance in place "but we are not publicising it". What a shambles of a company.
