Every day is a school day! Thanks Hadders - I didn’t know that. I now have a card registered for contactless on my account so can use this going forward to avoid these situations in future. I have e mailed a detailed complaint to Chiltern. No response as yet.

Thank you for all the replies. I bought a paper ticket as I needed a receipt and didn’t have a contactless card set up on my TFL account which I have now done. I will report this matter to Chiltern.
