This is probably my final update here. A few months have passed since I sent the letter to Southeastern, and I've not heard anything back at all. I'm going to presume that they've realised their error or some such and that I'm in the clear. I've still got records of travel for the disputed date...

Just a quick update, I've currently received no response at all from Southeastern, having returned the letter to them as requested. I don't know whether that's because it is a lengthy process to deal with, or whether I can deal with this as a closed matter. They haven't been very helpful...

There was indeed a reference number on the letter given, situated just above the 'Dear Mr ******' part... In my reply I didn't refer to this reference number, though I provided them with my name and address - the details they somehow are already in possession of. But yes, I've written and sent...

It is indeed PAYG but I didn't have an account on the card as I bought it from a local newsagents. I got an account yesterday to see if I could get a history printed off, but they can only be done from the date at which the account was made.
