I heard the train shuddering at about 90mph through winsford station and thought "hmm strange". Appears it was this tragedy in progress.

Reopening the island to make 4 through platforms as well as a mcr bay would make most long term sense imho. Its strange that work is being undertaken and no plans have been posted on this most informed forum! ??????

seconded. the link would not be needed if metrolink had not seconded the heavy rail route into manchester.

winsford - hartford and acton have a good service to liverpool and southwards to crewe (class 350's every 30 mins or so) yet no direct link to...
would reopening the other standedge tunnels make the job easier/cheaper?
the two disused tunnels could be brought to standard and electrified before being used as a diversion while the main currently used tunnel is upgraded.
without reopening the tunnels what will the scope be? limited...
