I travel between Sutton and Wimbledon and the current morning rush hour timetable looks like this.
7.19am
9.19am
9.49am
How can you run a service with a TWO hour gap in the morning rush hour ???
wow things are really bad on Thameslink this morning - a 2 hour gap between services from Sutton to Wimbledon during the morning rush hour peak.
if this was a one off I could understand, but from what i have been reading this disruption could last until at least August ??
just had a look at the new Thameslink timetable (I travel on the dreaded Wimbledon loop :frown:)
in the consultations I think I saw that they were planning on running 4 tph during peak times on the Wimbledon - Sutton section.
this now appears to have been dropped and so the half hourly service...
on other platforms (I think for example platforms 7 and 8) there is a clear up/down policy. you can only go in one direction. on platforms 9/10 this doesnt exist (yes there are some small signage, but everyone ignores this). Because there are more trams now, more people are trying to get down...
the last sentence of the programme was depressing but also probably accurate.
the presenter said "welcome to the new normal" and yes he is right because overcrowding is only going to get worse.
a couple of years back I was planning to move out of London but I then checked what my rail...
just gets more and more overcrowded...
one of the reasons is the added tram line they have put in alongside platform 9.
however no extra entrances/exits have been added so there is always severe congestion getting on and off the platform.
this needs to be looked at as I think there is an...
well I was planning on moving which would have resulted in using this awful part of SWT.
Now decided against it and will continue with my journeys on Southern.
much better.
if passenger numbers keep rising then I think there are going to be some serious problems.
already I think SWT are running at full capacity on their lines into Waterloo and people are struggling to board at stops coming into London.
I would be very wary of living near to any small station...
it seems to me that some lines fare better than others so overall SWT may indeed provide a better service than Southern.
I will be surprised if many on the suburban SWT trains running through Wimbledon on the morning and evening peaks are happy with the service provided though.
yes of course when you actually board a train at Wimbledon or Balham you dont necessarily notice the delays, however the trains bunched up like that at Wimbledon means they get slower and slower as they approach Waterloo. I could give you much worse arrival times for example at Vauxhall...
maybe the issue is the services into London Bridge then which I dont use.
I generally get the 5.20pm Southern service out of Victoria to Sutton or Cheam and I admit in the past it was bad, but since the new 10 carriage trains have come into operation this is now a very pleasant commute...
I am a little surprised by this suvey - although do admit that Southern have deteriorated a bit in the past year.
my situation is this. I have been travelling on Southern trains commuting to and from south London into Victoria for 15 years and have been thinking of moving to another area in...
does anyone know why there are 8 car carriages on one route and then 10 car carriages on another.
I often get a train to Victoria on Southern in the morning peak which is packed because it only has 8 carriages.
However I can get a return in the evening peak which is much more pleasant...
I can't criticise Thameslink too much as they are obviously going to improve long term with new rolling stock, timetables etc.
slightly off topic but can anyone confirm whether the Sutton/Wimbledon loop will see an increase in trains from 2ph to 4ph?
