    Train driver stories

Harold Gasson has a few books... i'm reading Signalling Days at the moment and it's pretty interesting with good stories. I'm sure the other books will be good also. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/275-6875736-2187567?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=harold+gasson&x=0&y=0

Yukkiest thing you've seen on a train

Another on Merseyrail (with no toilets onboard)... a guy caught short after a night out in Liverpool and on the way back to Chester, just stood there in front of a full carriage and relieved himself directly onto a seat! The only good bit of this was the amount of abuse he got from the rest of...

    Merseyrail engineering works

I know that track improvement work is being done at Chester this weekend. I can currently see from my apartment window that platform 7 (that Merseyrail use) does not have any track! They've cleared the track bed and are currently putting down a sandy-looking material... plenty of...

Coal trains on Warrington - Frodsham line

There are definitely coal trains between Ellesmere Port and Fiddlers Ferry - sometime pulled by a Class 70. Other freight trains carry gypsum, and also the log train of course.

Chester to Rhyl shut 24 plus hrs on Sunday

The last 2 Sundays there has been all-day engineering work near platforms 4a/b at Chester station. Looks like they are replacing/renewing the track (from what I can tell). I live in the apartments opposite and received the following letter the other day, although this letter is more related to...
