    Deepcar steel train

I've lived in the area all my life, I also worked in the Melting Shop at Stocksbridge on the electric arc furnaces before it shut. If it wasn't for the VIM Shop at Stocky it would have already shut totally. There will be tarmac down before 2025 in my personal opinion.

    UK Railtour to Deepcar 08-April-23

Not quite sure of the exact date, but 60020 came off the rails a year or two ago, this was past the NR limit.

    UK Railtour to Deepcar 08-April-23

The NR limit is Deepcar Station, I wouldn't think the tour will go into the exchange sidings as it's been a good couple of months since heavy freight has run up the line and the line past the NR limit will be to risky to chance. This will be the last chance to ride over the line, in my personal...

    Deepcar steel train

It's been reported on local Facebook pages that there was a track gang and vehicles on the branch all last week, replacing sleepers etc.

    Aldwarke to Stocksbridge steel.

That's the finished rolled bar back down to Aldwarke, it's bigger chunks what come up to Stocksbridge from Aldwarke, 5.7 tonne ingots which Stocksbridge reduces to the bars you have seen at Fox Valley Iskra.

    Aldwarke to Stocksbridge steel.

No mate it's ingots up from Aldwarke upto Stocksbridge for rolling and finishing as well as remelting into aerospace, all the things that Stocksbridge used to provide "in house"from it's own arc furnace

    Aldwarke to Stocksbridge steel.

Normally a 66 from what I've seen but I think 60's come in very handy during the Autumn due to the line been heavily tree lined. When I started in the Melting Shop it was pairs of 37's on the scrap trains up to Stocky, if you wasn't on nights you got woken up at about 2.30am anyway as the...

    Aldwarke to Stocksbridge steel.

Thanks for this, that must be the one as the times match, I used to work in the Melting Shop at Stocksbridge so hearing or seeing this working means that the works is still busy which is only a good thing .

    Aldwarke to Stocksbridge steel.

Evening All, Can anybody shed any light on this working tonight?, been off work for a week and most days so far it's passed through Wharncliffe Woods at about 18.40 while I've been walking the pooch. No sign today and haven't heard it from the house, normally pretty loud!.

Businessman has idea to create a Sheffield to Stocksbridge steam heritage line

The passenger service shut for a reason and it will never reopen. Anybody who says that the transport links in the valley could be improved by this scheme is dreaming. And yes I do live in the centre of the proposals.

    Deepcar branch modernisation?

Yep, heard of them..... Don't Valley Railway= A yet to be built station at Stocksbridge although this will almost certainly be on the new Fox Valley development, this is in the valley bottom so people who live up the top end of Stocksbridge face travelling up to a mile to this new station...

    Deepcar branch modernisation?

There is a tramlink feeder bus which runs every 10 mins from Stocksbridge to Middlewood tram terminus. It's very well used so I don't think there's much chance of tram-train being used now although I think you're right in saying it was shortsighted not to run the tram up here originally...

    Deepcar branch modernisation?

I used to work in the electric arc melting shop there until it shut in 2005. However there is still a lot of specialist steels (ESR, VAR and VIM steels), remelted there. I honestly believe that Stocksbridge could well be the last steelplant left in South Yorkshire if things carry on as they are...

    Deepcar branch modernisation?

Lets stick to the facts please, I asked about recent work which has been undertaken on the Deepcar Branch. I am aware that there is a few dreamers who will think this is a "Is the woodhead going to re-open" thread. I can assure you I am merely curious as to the work which has been done on the...
