In fact, Greater Anglia have an automated message "to assist in the prompt departure of this train, passengers are asked to close doors behind them"
East Gates in Colchester is pretty busy at peak times (every 10 to 15 minutes I believe)

The reason why we've not upgraded to HST........would another reason be because it's not practical in terms of space (and Mainland Britain is a lot smaller geographically than France or Germany too?) -just a thought :)

If you mean the "slam shut" doors, pulled by the old Intercity "bullnose" engines, then yes. Personally I find the seats much more comfy, with nice drop-down trays behind each seat. Lovely wooden effect panels, aluminium overhead luggage racks, wooden food display cabinets in the Buffet Car, the...
Just successfully booked two tickets from London to Colchester, all as mentioned above, using CrossCountry -(doesn't seem to be restricted to certain areas / Train Companies) -simply chose Table Seating, and was allocated two table seats! :D

I realise that inevitably these days, a person's actions often are analysed with hindsight, however the fact is an ordinary member of the public took a stand against something that wasn't right, and it paid off -SIMPLES! :-D
