Just thought I'd make a thread on the latest goings on the South Staffordshire Line between Stourbridge and Walsall. The stretch of track north of the M6 at Bescot Junction (including the Bescot Curve) to Walsall is currently being reopened!
Coal trains for Rugeley Power station will use the...
It sure is becoming a joke Badger! I think I would rather have the tram train project between Stourbridge and Walsall out of the two plans that are on the table. Ideally, it'd be better if they just reopened the line for heavy rail services as was the case pre Beeching Axe!
The South...
The Stourbridge to Walsall route needs to be reopened! It'd bring rail links back to tens of thousands of people that don't have any rail link at the moment, including in Dudley, the second largest town in the UK! The government needs to focus on areas other than the South and South East!
They seem to have started removing some of the vast amounts of vegetation from the South Staffordshire Line I noticed, when going through Dudley Port on the train and looking down towards the Lower Level. Can't confirm it 100% but thats how it appeared. Perhaps they're clearing it to check out...
Living in student accomodation located near Wolverhampton railway station, they've started clearing a fair amount of vegetation from what were, originally, old railway sidings. They also have several men working, with all sorts of equipment and materials coming on site, but its hard to see what...
For anyone going, can you film some of the journey? I'm gutted theres no more tickets! :(
I'd be great if someone filmed the journey from Birmingham New Street to Kidderminster, especially the part where you travel through Smethwick and Galton Junction! :)
I'd be interested in this! Would be great for me to go on a train between Birmingham New Street and Stourbridge or something, it's a shame they stopped that service in the first place, although having written to London Midland about it they said they'd take my suggestion to bring it back into...
The most obvious line near me is the South Staffordshire Line between Round Oak and Walsall via Dudley, the track still in place but not in use for passenger services since the 1960's and freight since 1993.
Its protected so it can be re-opened for the Midland Metro.
I hopped on 172345 and 172337 today.
Does anyone know if when all the 172's are in service whether there will be any substantial changes to the timetable?
Great video! I was on the 172345 that pulls up at Stourbridge Junction at around 7min30 in that video! The blond lady and the bloke she was with got on the same carriage as me! I think you can just about see me at one point in the door way.
Just a question Simon, do you have a beard? I saw...
Sounds good, I do like them, I only went a short distance on them so I look forward to going to Birmingham on them. I have Central news on now so I can keep an eye out for the report on the 172's :)
I'm hoping so as I live in Hagley, and having looked at the document, the 13:14 from here would be one of the 172's, arriving in Stourbridge at around 13:17 and departing at 13:19. Either way I shall be down at the station on Monday to see!

Heres a link from London Midland to show which services the 172's will operate next week :)
