How do official platform departure screens showing carriages in train formations manage to be wrong for a service where Realtime Trains shows the correct formation? The system must have the correct data in it somewhere for Realtime Trains to use it, so how does it get mangled on the way to...
It depends whether the question is specifically walk to from their homes, or at least as the start of an outbound journey, or whether return journeys also count.
The stations already mentioned near places like the big shopping centres and the NEC will have plenty of passengers walking to them...
Thanks, all, especially for such speedy responses — that has reassured me.
Well I wasn't worrying until I contacted customer services!
Yeah, I'd presumed it would be unenforceable. Good to know about the industry guidance, though.
Thank you so much — that is really useful to know. Apparently...
Hello. I have a CrossCountry Advance ticket affected by this weekend's WMR industrial action, and am wondering what the options are.
The ticket is Ilkley–Worcester Foregate Street, “Only valid on booked CrossCountry services and required connecting services. Restriction XV applies”.
The...
Passengers for the 17:15 from Leeds to Ilkley yesterday arrived at the platform to see the train already there and doors open, only to be told by a member of staff not to board because the service was about to be cancelled, and we'd have to wait for the 17:33 instead. Just at that point, there...
Thank you for the thorough explanation. That's appreciated.
I couldn't find an actual seat reservation for any train on that route. Even one on a Sunday in March which has Advance tickets for £25, and for which therefore presumably has not yet had many tickets sold, only offered one of those...
Sorry, I'm still confused: Your first sentence makes it sound like it's compulsory to have a reservation on that train, as in passengers aren't allowed to travel without one. Your second one says the ticket is still valid on it — which would suggest that reservations aren't actually compulsory...
Why would there be a train in the middle of a Sunday where any Anytime ticket isn't valid?
Searching for St Pancras–Leeds on February 22nd, there are journeys with a change at Sheffield starting at :02 past most hours. There's an Anytime Single for £160·60, which is valid on the 12:02, 13:02...
Thanks, Island. That (sort-of) makes sense.
I guess we're about to find out how competent our local ticket office is then!
Yeah, that's what I was expecting them to do, and why I was cautious about collecting the tickets and thereby removing their ability to do that.

Hello. For changing the dates on Advance tickets, any advice on whether we're better off collecting the tickets and then trying to change them, or to change them online first, with the system knowing that we haven't yet got our hands on the originals? I don't want to collect them and then find...
Thanks. Yeah, I appreciate we can't know till something is published, but it's useful to have a general idea of what might be possible when researching hire cars and National Express options and getting a feel for what the day might involve.
Cheers.
Hello. We have tickets for Teignmouth–Penmere on Friday June 2nd, which has now been announced as an RMT strike day. Has GWR run any trains on this route on previous RMT strike days?
(I appreciate that nobody can know for definite what will run that day until timetables are announced, but I'm...
Thanks.
Though the above page also says “Tickets will be available on the following dates only on the LNER website and app: From 23 July to 15 September”.
Presuming it means ‘available for’ those dates (rather than ‘available to buy on’ them), then that explains why there are some tickets for...
