Sadly I've not heard anything about it since that initial tease.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I've used Caledonian Sleeper a few times to go skiing in Scotland. As well as Aviemore there are good bus connections at Spean Bridge for Nevis Range and Bridge of Orchy for Glencoe. One of the reasons I go down that route is the ability to cancel until 1 week before. My general experience is...

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

True - my time living around them was before that! And the £3 fare cap is technically temporary so might not continue indefinitely. I think it's currently running till March 2027? And part of it is of course how these things are marketed and how well known they are. I completely approve sales...

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

It is also quite the price jump, I used the Lakes Day Ranger a lot when I was a student in Lancaster for day trips out to the Lakes. Looks like now with a Railcard it's £20. And the new Cumbria travel pass (no Railcard discounts available) is £40 if I'm following this thread. So basically double...

    Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire

Last summer it runs on a more limited basis to the rest of the routes - weekends in July and August only. I'd guess they are expecting similar again. Last summer's timetable is at...

    Caledonian Sleeper

They were checking during boarding as well, I didn't notice if the non-staffed doors were released or not. But yeah doesn't do any harm particularly while people are getting used to it. It was due at 2242 from platform 3 and there is also a 2238 CrossCountry to Birmingham New Street and 2251...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I went North from Birmingham International towards Fort William lar Friday night. I was estimate around maybe 10 people getting on. I did notice most people seemed to be heading for the Aberdeen portion that is in the platform. Only 1 other person heading to the back for Inverness & Fort...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Can't say I'm a regular user so maybe it's luck but there has always been at least a dozen or so other people waiting at Preston when I've got on their. And the one time I've got off at Carlisle there were still a few others. Only time I've been the only one outside of the Highlands was when I...

Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

No idea if anyone else does the same but I usually get a hotel before Eurostar. The ones near St Pancras are often too expensive so I usually have a tube journey. If I could get a hotel in Ashford/Ebbsfleet for significantly cheaper I would absolutely switch to them considering they are easily...

The perpetual pain of convincing bus drivers of the validity of your ticket.

I wasn't aware of these changes at last month bought a Leeds PlusBus from King's Cross ticket office immediately before getting on a train there. It came on bog roll with an Aztec code. I didn't think much of it but when I got on the first bus and I flashed it the driver asked me to scan it on...

New European Sleeper route: Brussels to Innsbruck/Venice

Previous stuff has suggested they run on different dates. Eg: https://www.treinreiziger.nl/european-sleeper-breidt-netwerk-uit-naar-alpen-en-venetie/ reports that the service will run Southbound on Wednesdays and Northbound on Sundays. Though of course plans may have changed.

Italy Silver Card for over 60s

No idea if the process is the same but I was able to get a youth one outside of Italy (though there wasn't any charge?). As least for that hidden away in point 2.3 of the terms and conditions at: https://www.trenitalia.com/it/cartafreccia/condizioni_di_adesioneedutilizzodellecarte.html there is...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Just echoing the other comments about contacting customer services - I few times I have done this and they have always made a note without any fuss for the train staff. At least that's my experience with the live chat. Both when bordering earlier and later than originally booked.

New European Sleeper route: Brussels to Innsbruck/Venice

They only have 1 route at the moment but honestly not great. The earliest announcements for a Brussels to Prague sleeper I can find say spring 2022 (https://www.railjournal.com/passenger/main-line/european-sleeper-announces-first-international-night-train-service/) l. It would take until May...

New European Sleeper route: Brussels to Innsbruck/Venice

As well as the email: https://travelweekly.co.uk/news/air/plans-unveiled-for-overnight-sleeper-train-service-to-the-alps got publised today which hints at a route and timeline. The relevant section: Personally as much as I would love it I would be amazed if this is up and running by then. The...
