    Uckfield line

Apologies for the non-railway diversion. Some 20+ years ago I visited a pub in Eridge. I think it was the Huntsman. On a wall was a photograph of Maurice Tate, a well-known Sussex and England cricketer of the 1920s and 1930s. Apparantly he had been the landlord there, in the early 1950s. I...

    Snow and Ice Updates

Sorry dangie I can't get the quote to work properly. Very sensibly I guess you were making the point that 1-2cm of snow is not a lot. That deserves a response. You're quite right of course, but there was quite a lot of snow before any settled. I was out running in it for 20 minutes and none...

    Snow and Ice Updates

I was very impressed with the Hastings line service this morning. My train (1H90; 06:04 Hastings to London Charing Cross) left Tunbridge Wells only 5 minutes late and arrived at Waterloo East only one minute late. Well done to all concerned! There seemed to be quite a lot of very wet snow...

Electrical supply problems Tonbridge to Hastings

https://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/travel-information/live-travel-information/service-disruption I thought this was quite well explained by SouthEastern, but wondered if anyone could add anything to this? For example what sort of "electrical supply problems"? Apologies if this is in the...

Thanks for taking the trouble to explain this.

Felix, Huddersfields station cat features on TV

Thanks. I thought this looked quite a good programme for those of the right age, and hopefully will interest some in railways. Huddersfield station looked very nice! I hope to visit it some time. One train seemed to be going through without stopping. Are there services which go through...

Trivia(?): Stations next to a supermarket

Sadly the Tunbridge Wells Morrisons closed in April 2016, I think it was Sunday 3rd at 16:00. When I last walked past it was being refitted, though not apparently as a supermarket. There is a Sainsbury's local across the road from the Mount Pleasant exit.

    Railways in Pop Culture

I love this thread! I don't think Morningtown Ride, which I've heard only by the Seekers, has been mentioned. As the composer was from the USA I imagine it doesn't count anyway. It's also not very specific.

Should OAPs and Disabled get free train travel?

In case it helps, my limited experience rather supports this. Most of my travel is by train commuting on the Hastings line to London. They are normally full or close to full. However I also do quite a bit of weekday off-peak travel in the area. Quite a lot of the trains are barely half full...

    Wifi on trains?

I seem to recall a government announcement from 2014 about wifi on trains, referred to in this URL: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-28198237 I can't seem to find much about this since. Can anyone help? I'm not complaining that it hasn't been done, just curious about how it...

exhibition on Somerset & Dorset Railway at Bath Museum

I'm planning a visit to Bath in late November so would be interested in this if it's still on then. The URL mentioned looks really interesting, but doesn't mention the exhibition. Any further details would be much appreciated!

    Class 465/9 diagrams?

Thanks for pointing this out! The only times since the change I've come back from Cannon Street outside the rush hour have been on the 16:22, which has swapped the other way.
