London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Is the Dundee sleeper lounge also going to be taken over by LNER? I'd have thought a Dundee lounge would be far more useful and popular than the Leuchars one.

    Glasgow Central to/from Rothesay

That seems a bit of a faff. The last time I used a rail sail ticket, everything was all on the one (mag strip) ticket including the ferry section. I simply showed my train ticket to the ferry staff on boarding. The combined rail sail tickets are good value especially with a Railcard and helps...

Scotrail Rail/Sail tickets to Brodick (Arran) availability

Hi, I'm struggling to buy a combined rail sail ticket to Arran. I can find rail sail tickets for other Scottish routes just not the Arran one. Have these tickets been suspended due to the recent ferry issues? If so, are we likely to see the tickets become available soon now that MV Caledonian...

ScotRail "Tattie Holiday" Pass - "Non Transferable"

Kids were still doing them in the late 90s/ early 00s. I know, as I did them with my school friends! It was good money for a kid. In the summer months we'd do the berry picking too. Interestingly, it appears most people in big cities of Glasgow/Edinburgh only get 1 week off and don't call them...

Alstom Polmadie Open Day - 12th October (was 21 Sep)

That was an enjoyable day out. Nice selection of locos and it was good to get into the driving seat of a class 90 and 99. Bit of a shame the workshops were empty. The pendolino and scotrail 334 were meant to be part of the lineup but we could only see them from a distance. It was hardly worth...

Alstom Polmadie Open Day - 12th October (was 21 Sep)

Apparently CR 419 in it's newly painted old LMS 15189 guise will be joining the lineup. It's the oldest surviving loco to have been based at Polmadie.

Looks like all the day tickets sold out within minutes.

    New Cross Country Advert views

I'm not so keen. I do like the realistic scene as opposed to the LNER annoying Muppet. It just feels like it has been made by a female based marketing agency, and is a very stereotypical portrayal of trainspotters; white male, geeky appearance, anoraks, flasks etc etc... yawn. Doesn't exactly...

Alstom Polmadie Open Day - 12th October (was 21 Sep)

Can you imagine the uproar if the only way you could enter the Greatest Gathering in Derby was to book an expensive excursion train from Glasgow!!! It's such a shame. Glasgow played a vital part in the history of railways. Glasgow used have numerous loco builders including the largest loco...

Alstom Polmadie Open Day - 12th October (was 21 Sep)

This can't be correct?? Many local people were keen on visiting this local depot, yet it looks like we now have to travel down to Derby to get a £150 railtour! The railtour finishes in the depot, but the Alston website also mentions visitors will arrive by shuttle bus from Glasgow Central. so...

Alstom Polmadie Open Day - 12th October (was 21 Sep)

It's very annoying that the date is now the 12th October, as that is usually the start of the Scottish October school holiday week when many of us including myself were planning to go on holiday. The inspiration train at a Glasgow and free vintage buses are also the same weekend.

New Rail Station at Barrhead South

This station is actually long overdue. I have a doc that mentions a pop-up station is due to open in 2019 (never happened) with the official station opening 2 years later in 2021. The station opening has become a long running saga in the area, along with the reopening of the greatly delayed...

    New TPE first class menu

I'm still finding TPEx very hit and miss. Last week I took the 0909 travelling from Glasgow to Manchester. Despite there being a fair amount of empty seats on departure the catering lady came round removing the menus and told us we wouldn't get any breakfast until after Carlisle. None of the...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

It's interesting to see children's options in 1st class now. I assume children can still eat from the main menu too? I took my 2 year old son up to Inverness on the Highland Chieftain last year and he had the chicken risotto. He scoffed the lot!! Just shows how small the 'adult' portions are!

    Off peak/peak v Advance

Quite often Advance tickets are more expensive than off peak. Eg between Glasgow and Preston Avanti price their cheapest 1st advance more than the off peak 1st. I'm not sure why anyone would buy the advance unless they're travelling at peak time.
