I can imagine that the trains and systems were tested, but the new trains were labelled and marketed to the travelling public as being capable of 225kph.
The IC225s were named as such because 225kph = 140mph. I remember hearing at the time that it was intended to run at 140mph between Stoke junction and Peterborough on the ECML and that the signalling was upgraded, but I don’t think it ever happened.
I read earlier today that the train would travel from Edinburgh Waverley all the way down the ECML. The destination was not mentioned, but I think we can presume it will be Kings Cross.
No doubt, there will be thousands along the railway to see the train and pay their respects.
I was on the LNER 8:15 from Leeds this morning and we had to firstly pick up additional passengers from a terminated GC train at Doncaster.
We were then stopped just before Peterborough, on P3 at PBO without opening the doors, stopped again after PBO and then a pick up only stop at Huntingdon...

The bulk of the passengers would be traveling between London and Leeds.
