A friend alerted me to this earlier. It seems a water main has burst right next to the station on the Manchester bound side, washing debris on to the track. Not sure jiw long this will take to clear up but it looks fairly substantial!

Yes it seems to be back to the 2 hourly bus schedule to Wigan and Bolton but then 11th May onwards planners show trains running from Wigan NW to Stalybridge and return. I wonder if this is optimistic!

I managed to contact Northern as searches for Sunday journeys from the new timetable start date in May are showing a normal service, and they advised that this was correct. When I asked if the Sunday working issue had been resolved the reply was that “there are currently no ongoing disputes”...

I was just browsing for possible trips during April and May and noticed that a couple of Sundays in April (13th and 27th) have actual trains running, as do Sundays from the 4th May. I know that there is a timetable change from 18th May. I had got used to the 2 hourly bus replacement service...

A couple of the stations I use regularly already have them installed. Horwich Parkway is supposedly powered by the turbine and there’s one at Westhoughton too, although I can’t find out much info on that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horwich_Parkway_railway_station

Had this letter through last week and no mention of station closures just the road being single lane for the duration, supposedly until October!

Spotted this steel work that looks to have been driven in at the base of the embankment near the A6 bridge at Westhoughton station the other day. Is this something to do with track lowering? I noticed that the track left from the old Metal Box siding approach has been lifted too…
