Manchester Victoria's roof has sprung a leak

Some chaps are on the roof having a look this morning. Yesterday there were a couple of what looked like portable pumps on there for a while.

Manchester Victoria's roof has sprung a leak

I recently noticed that the fabric roof of the station had begun to sag in places and was collecting water. Well, heading through last night one of the sags had sprung a rather spectacular leak (and another one had this morning). Difficult to see but there's a thin stream of water gracefully...

Manchester Central Zone - inbound only

What's the reason for this? Is it technical or political?

Manchester Central Zone - inbound only

Why can't one buy a ticket outbound from Manchester Central Zone to an eligible station? I get a day return from HTC into Manchester MCZ and use the tram from Piccadilly to get to my office close to Victoria (as permitted by the ticket). Occasionally I get a lift into work, but then I can't buy...

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

The frustrating thing for me is that I saw no communication about the frequency changes. I travel on the network every working day and I had no idea of the changes. I came back from a week off to be confused about why the Bury trams took so long to show up at Piccadilly. It was only coming here...

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

I took a tram from Victoria to Piccadilly this evening and the ride from Piccadilly Gardens to the undercroft was noticeably smoother and quieter than before.

    New Northern map

It's a little misleading to say Piccadilly to Victoria is a nine minute connection. The journey may take nine, but you could have to wait twelve minutes for the next service.

Castleton South Junction Renewal and M62 bridge replacement

Newbie question, what does plain-lining mean?

    Manchester Piccadilly Platform 12

Something is afoot - 11 and 12 are currently blocked off to passengers and there's heavy machinery visible. Only caught a glance as I was passing through today

Car driver and passenger drown under Liverpool Railway Road Bridge

Worth pointing out that the bridge under the WCML at Crossley Road between Stockport and Manchester has a recurring flooding problem. Stockport council recently put up warning signs up that are triggered by any flooding. They're regularly ignored.

Permitted routes - Heaton Chapel to Sheffield

Thank you for your posts everyone. I hadn't clocked the route via Hyde Central. Seems odd that there's three different routes possible. I'll have to try them all out over the summer

Permitted routes - Heaton Chapel to Sheffield

I am going to be travelling fairly frequently between Heaton Chapel and Sheffield this year. The obvious route, and the one the ticket engines show, is via Stockport, but I'm wondering if the slow route via Marple is a permited route? I have tried to understand the routeing guide and I think it...
