1986 "green train"? Is this is in anyway related to the "green trains" planned for UK by the great 3.. Mock ups are usually for existing stock if am right.. we dont know what stock for crossrail then what model..agree with DJW here. RD

ELLP Rolling stock - 3 doors?

East London's new stock is supposed to be similiar to the Class 376.. But I hear that this would differ from the Class 376 distinctively by having a 3 door design..well though I would welcome 3 door cars, am doubtful if the ELL Project would have this development. If anyone could throw some...

WHy dont we have Double Deck EMUs in UK?

Hmmm.. going by the responses here, it pretty much rules out DD coaches in Britain. But what may interest you is that Bombardier is said to be designing a new generation of DD coaches and EMUs which could be used in Britain and maybe even used in the Thameslink bid. Maybe they are working on...

WHy dont we have Double Deck EMUs in UK?

One of the key issues in UK rail is that of congestion and overcrowding in trains. This can be greatly reduced by using Double Deck coaches. Weight would be an issue.. but UK unlike other countries has the same tracks for freight and passengers. So Double decks can also be accomodated...

    First Capital Connect

@ Westcoaster - thanks for that explanation. This has got me interested. If electric trains have this door problems then the issue could well be the power supply.. Any ideas if anything has been done for doors specifically in the new stock.. -RD

    First Capital Connect

Ok.. But why is that peculiar to the UK? I read somewhere that trains in UK take more power causing a number of problems. Since doors are electrically operated I thought that this could be the culprit. Now with people asking for 3 doors in trains..(the new Electrostars for East London...

[BBC] New trains 'too heavy for tracks'

And we were just disussing how Double Deck coaches can significantly reduce the congestion problem! With this state of affairs were a 375 is "heavy", then DD coaches I guess will never see light of day here.. Or is there a possibility? if Network rail does something about the tracks? -RD

    First Capital Connect

Doors and again doors.. Doors seem to be the major point of failure..especially in UK trains. Have been hearing a lot about doors failing. I mean, does it get stuck or something? I tried searching about door failure on other European trains.. nothing like the UK though.. Has it got something...

    Thameslink and Crossrail and Franchisees

Well.. as far as I know.. Metro fleet production for the LU is expected to go on till 2015. Also 152 Cars for East London/North London from 2008 to 2009. OPtions include an additional 196 cars.. which could go on till 2010 - 2011... You are right there.. but with bidding to start in 2008...

    Thameslink and Crossrail and Franchisees

Am aware that Siemens make Desiros.. maybe I should have been more specific.. Was wondering if the Desiros also would suit Thameslink like how the Electrostars do... Looking at the problem from another angle.. if Bombardier Derby is currently running at full capacity making the Metros for...

    Thameslink and Crossrail and Franchisees

@W14Fishbourne - thanks for clearing that up. I guess new rolling stock is in the offing.. The Sustainability report does talk of new stock. And you are right. They would need dual voltage. And also longer trains are proposed. That would mean only good ol Bombardier is in the race (Desiro's...
