Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

I can believe this is the reason, but it does come across as another (admittedly minor) example of the railway being run for the convenience of the people running it rather than the people using it.

Trains stopping so far from exit points, why????

The southbound Middlesbrough Azuma always stops at York right at the southern end, leaving a bit of a walk from the bridge and underpasses. Not sure if there are any operational reasons - plenty of similar length trains stop in a more 'normal' place on those platforms. Don't know if any of the...

Routing to avoid ECML disruption below York

FWIW, in my experience when ECML disruption is really bad there is very often acceptance for both MML via Sheffield or WCML via Manchester. I've done both multiple times when travelling between Kings Cross and York.

    Seatfrog - certain services unavailable

Something at LNER in relation to this must have changed recently. Before August there was almost always availability to swap a ticket to York-KX trains throughout the early morning peak (and often for £10). In the past month, generally the earliest train with any availability has been the 08:13...

    LNER Onboard Staff

No trolley anymore, but on the (very quiet) southbound Middlesbrough-KX a couple of weeks back, one of the staff walked through standard class taking, and then delivering orders. Like a more analogue LEAYS. Was a nice touch from someone who clearly cared about doing their job well.

    Rhaetian Railway ticketing

Good to know, thanks - as mentioned by other posters, probably too expensive for just short trips unfortunately. That's a good point - I'll take a look at Interrail for the whole thing. Guarda was on my list of places to stay for a few days, so good to know it's worth it. That could be...

    Rhaetian Railway ticketing

I'm planning a trip to the Lower Engadine in Southeast Switzerland at some point once travel is possible again, and was wondering if there's some sort of ticketing option for various short trips on the RHB during a week (e.g. Scuol-Lavin, Scuol-Zernez) - the idea being to get the train somewhere...

    Manchester to Wilmslow routeing

I hadn't spotted that - thanks very much for pointing out.

    Manchester to Wilmslow routeing

I need to travel from Piccadilly to Wilmslow, then a few days later from the Airport to Piccadilly. If I get a Manchester Stns to Wilmslow return, can I start the return journey at the Airport?

    Northern timetable changes May 2019

Is there platform capacity to leave three cars at Piccadilly and pick them up again on the way back to Cleethorpes? Or would the need to use the same platform on both journeys be too constraining?

    York-London Off Peak Return validity

Does anyone know how long the return portion of this ticket is valid for? Thanks in advance. http://www.brfares.com/#faredetail?orig=YRK&dest=KGX&grpd=1072&rte=27&tkt=BFR

    Victoria to Pimlico

The Victoria line between Victoria and Pimlico (southbound) is particularly noisy in terms of squealing - especially when compared to the rest of the Victoria line. I know there's a curve between these two stations, but looking here (http://carto.metro.free.fr/cartes/metro-tram-london/) it...

    Grand Central Problems

https://twitter.com/GC_Rail/status/1022464525885480961 This must be a new low - Sunderland to King's Cross cancelled at York, onward road transport the only option!

Suggestions for where new flyovers/diveunders should be built to replace 'flat' junctions

Would grade separation west of Barnes open up much capacity on the Windsor lines?

Northern timetable plan for May 2018

Good to see Cattal to Eastrington commuters are finally getting a direct service. Shame it's only in one direction ;)
