Where I was based with Freightliner, I worked alongside plenty of ex pass drivers. Both protected and non protected, ex class 1 and metro drivers . Most of who thought I was stupid for wanting to move to pass . I guess it's different strokes for different folks .
Not sure where the perception comes from that TOC drivers don't move to FOCs . Plenty at Freightliner .
FOCs like a trainee for the same financial and training reasons TOCs do, and if they take on qualified Freight drivers then there's no element of conversion needed, apart from possibly...
No worries, you'll be fine . I think waiting on the medical was the worst part of the whole process for me when I was getting a trainee position, as I felt it was out of my hands . So I get why you're anxious about it .
The hearing test for me is the worst part of the process as they put you...
All it is, is literally reading a standard eyesight letter chart from one corner of the room to the other and how far down the chart you can read , with your glasses on and with them off . They may ask you to cover one eye at a time with your glasses off as well . However as long as the glasses...

That's great , thanks for the reply. Sounds like you made the right choice. I'll definitely be making the move but it's reassuring to hear freight drivers have made the transition comfortably and are enjoying the work .
I'm definitely looking forward to a more structured roster and for me...
I'm currently working as freight driver and on the whole still enjoy the job, however certain elements have started to drag a bit recently.
A great opportunity has arisen for me to drive for my local TOC, which I fully intend to take and I was wondering how other freight drivers have found the...
I was lodged away Sunday to Friday for my entire classroom training and for me personally I'd say it was a bonus .
We as a class were able to form a revision group in the evening where we'd sit there throwing questions at each other from the days learning and were able to help each other with...
As far as I remember ,the OPC invigilator will check everyone on the day against their national insurance number to see firstly if you have taken and failed the tests more than twice and secondly what tests you have previously taken and passed. What ever tests you have passed to the standard and...
