Yup I used to travel on that line a fair bit (until Northern changed the timetable). Had the whole train to myself usually!

Hmmmm... The Wolverhampton to Walsall (via Portobello Jn.) comes to mind.... [Parliamentary Train that is rather difficult to plan as it doesn't show up on National rail sometimes....]

This is going to sound odd. I like football because on selected match days Manchester United Football Ground Station (right next to the stadium) is open. I've been - it's quite nice to exit the station into the stadium and loop at some of the exhibits there (it's like a miniature museum).

Waterloo (Merseyside) is mine. I'm only 5mins away from the station. Makes planning trips a lot easier. :)
