A couple of days ago, I booked tickets for myself and my daughter, me senior, she not, so two journeys in the basket for Chinley-Cottingham and returntravelling tomorrow.
The hospital I was going to have just rung to cancel because the machine has broken down, and as yet they cant give...
To be pedantic, Chinley had 5 through platforms, plus one south/east facing bay. And there were two signal boxes (Chinley Stations North and South) in the station vicinity. As far as staff went, I have a photo somewhere showing at least a dozen railwaymen.
Was this a chap called Stanley Swift from the Manchester Area by any chance? He was quite well known in the 70s for his hobby. I always imagined Blackpool Corporation Transport getting very nervous when they heard he was coming on the train to their resort!
When I went to the event, I spoke to the NR chap who was in charge of the cilvil engineering side of the project, and he told me there was likely to be a 4 to 6 week total blockade, probably in June/July. This would be so they could use engineering trains to supply some of the 50,000 tons worth...
I have bought Wayfarers on the train for several years, without any trouble.
Also, the £14 full price ticket allows one child (or dog, I think) as well as the adult.
The £7 discounted wayfarer ticket for Chinley-Sheffield journeys compares very favourably to the senior railcard discounted off...
I have tried to renew my railcard today, and was failing miserably, due to some unknown issue with uploading the unnecessary photo for the physical card. The error message was totally unhelpful , just saying "try again" and again and again. . Fortunately I checked on here and discovered the go...

Buxworth, which had its own station on the Midland line between Chinley and New Mills South Jcn until 1959 (ish) lies pretty much equidistant betwwen Chinley (Hope Valley) and Whaley Bridge (Wessie route to Buxton)
