Work to create Whitehaven Colliery off the west Cumbrian coast was due to kick-off at the end of the year.
But it has now been revealed that the planning application will not even go before county council planners for a decision until early next year.

I think one issue that often makes the car driver take to the train in urban areas is the cost of parking a car in cities, this can level out any cost differential between the car and the train.
Surely a good opportunity was lost when you had the window of ECML, WCML and GWML up for refranchising, they could have been nationalised and renamed Inter-City.
Bottom line is that governments are not committed to a successful railway, privatisation was bodged and look at the subsides paid out...
What must be frustrating when the early morning trains fail you can have Sellafield workers losing half a days pay, if the service is proving unreliable they are not going to tolerate this method of getting to work for long.
Passed through Blackpool North today, can only agree with some of previous remarks on this thread, I think the staff need to go on a customer relations course to improve the way they deal with customers, politeness and courtesy does not appear to be high on their agenda.
The Settle & Carlisle is promoted as a line worth visiting by tourists however the stock Northern use has generally got filthy windows taking away the full experience of viewing the magnificent scenery from the train window.
The weight of this train can vary depending on the moisture content of the logs, so between a dry summer (if we can get one) and a hard winter the difference in weight for the same numbers of wagons will be immense.
