    Cambridge South new station opening

Seems to vary by time of day and wind direction. It is certainly noticeable at the allotments and in Hobson square at times. In other news spotted these interesting metal sleepers with hollow centres. There is also a coming soon notice for the coffee shop.

Anyone know if the new (manual?) cut out just north of long road was used here?

And on the other side the list continues with Tesco, Gail’s and Subway. While loss of M&S would be felt I assume EWR will bring expansion on the eastern side and maybe on or two retail outlets to go with it. Long past are the days where M&S was the only retail offering on station road.

1T11 is now 5T11 and on the move?

Presumably that means 1T11 is fouling the points south of Cambridge South.

I see the disruption template has not been updated to mention Cambridge South yet: https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service-disruptions/cambridge-20260703/ (Stations not served lists include numerous local stations, but not Cambridge South)

Disruption to the wires at 'Cambridge' today - I wonder if we will see any services reversing at Cambridge South. As for the lack of enclosed waiting areas - one thought I had on the topic is that there are a *lot* of trains and you are unlikely to be waiting for very long.

Both entrances have 2 wide and 3 standard gates.

    Cambridge South new station opening

I have been past the last couple of days in the morning and there was a healthy stream of people exiting, but I would not call it crowded. Not huge numbers heading to the station but I expect London commuters would be earlier. Of course it is a site with 24/7 activity and shift work so the...

A big thank you is indeed due to the whole team that worked on the station, @mr_moo included. Various friends/neighbours/colleagues who have visited the station or seen the news have been universally positive and/or jealous of our new local facility. Need to keep reminding them it's really for...

I'm not entirely sure that's accurate - at least one older college was extended and refurbished in brick prior to the founding of Downing in 1800. I fear this takes us away from railway matters though :-). The exception being the recent (2019) Anne McLaren Building which I believe is a...

Photo for reference of the charger. My assumption is that a double socket became a single socket with key switch somewhere in the design process.

And here are an assortment of more general photos of the station, both interior and exterior. They show the interior wood paneling and ceiling, the text based public artwork, and very red balustrade on the bridge stairs. Exterior photos show the platform environments, the emergency escape over...

    Location Cabinets in hot weather

On a topical note here are a couple of brand new cabinets at Cambridge South station today. Both sounded like they had powered ventilation hard at work in the sun. I don't know if they are Signalling or station services but they look suitably industrial.
