rovers and rangers: new interactive map

I think the Highland rover doesn't cover south of Aberdeen or Aviemore, yet the map shows all stations to Glasgow from those two.

    ScotRail depot derailment (06/03)

Seems to be a wheelset off on a unit inside Bathgate depot affecting trains in and out.

    150/2 separation at Leeds 2018.

There was an NIR raised that identified an overly tight jubilee clip holding the uncoupling arm in the coupler slightly away from its correct position. For reference the NIR number is NIR 3431.

    Issues at Stafford - 2023/08/22

Thanks jfollows. The photo is of 90006 (not 90008) and was taken during the test run, and is credited inside and at Figure 5.

Derailment near Carlisle - 19/10/2022 - 1715 Clitheroe Castle Cement Gb to Carlisle N.Y. (6C00)

If you are unwilling to share your theory or evidence with RAIB, how about sharing it with either the wagon owner or the other parts of the freight industry that will be considering the risks as part of their response to the RAIB recommendation?

    Aviemore incident 29/9/23

Grosmont resulted in a short, factual safety digest highlighting existing learning rather than a full investigation with new recommendations.

    Hulley's of Baslow (Defunct)

There was no sign of it at Castleton on the Saturday, but I don't know about the Sunday. I was stuck at Castleton with no buses out between 15:00 and 16:50, after the Breezer didn't show up and the service to Sheffield also did a no-show. Cut and run back to Derby via the 173 to Bakewell instead.

Trivia: Furthest station away from their intended destination that you have seen someone accidentally end up at.

My son was getting the Wigan to Crewe train (destination Euston via BHM), but everything was late and the earlier Wigan to Euston (last stop Warrington BQ) arrived at his train's time. Of course he didn't realise until after Warrington, so he had to get the last train north out of Euston. I had...

    Interrail in France

Like you, I have used the SNCF system in the past, but seat61 suggests it isn't possible now apart from at the site you know about, which seems to email the reservation. https://www.seat61.com/interrail-and-eurail-reservations.htm Hopefully someone will fill the gap soon.

Braking issue on Caledonian Sleeper causes train to "run away" at Edinburgh

Figure 3 and paragraph 82 show the running brake test was done on a relatively level stretch of line.

    Most exhilarating station approach

I would suggest Montrose from the south, with the curving viaduct approach looking over the town and harbour to one side and the expanse of the tidal basin to the other. It might not be a major station, but being home, it is significant to me.

Suggestions for the future of Merseyrail operations: more segregation and possible extensions?

The hourly fast (Exchange, Formby, Ainsdale, Birkdale, Southport only) ran 09:16 to 16:16 and 19:16 to 22:16 on Monday to Saturday in the 1975-6 timetable. It wasn't in the 1970-71 timetable, although the Lime St - Southport service was. I haven't been able to check other years.
