Does anyone know what is happening at New Mills Newtown. The station office has been boarded up for months, with a sign saying 'we're working hard to improve the station.' How hard exactly?
Sorry if this has been covered.
Does anyone know why all the platforms are not used at Victoria? It looks like one tram platform has Spanish solution, or it could just be the layout?
Agreed. Even just getting to platforms 13 and 14 at present is a nightmare. The only obvious way to get there is up the travelator, which is often blocked by two people standing side by side, a buggy or worse... By the time you've said "excuse me" and they've fannied around you're almost at the...
Given the response from the Mayor of Manchester (and others) following the partial cancellation of the electrification of the Liverpool to Manchester line, I would imagine the government would be reluctant to announce a cancellation of the Manchester Piccadilly expansion any time soon.
I was going to suggest that should the building of platforms 15 and 16 go ahead, part of the throat of Piccadilly may be remodelled and this section of track be remobved.
But if it's still used 2 or 3 times a week then maybe it will remain.
What's the other siding called, just adjacent to...
There is a small bit of track in the middle of the throat of Piccadilly. I believe its a siding or some sort of loop but is only accessible from the terminal platforms at Piccadilly and not directly from platforms 13 and 14. Its situated almost in the middle of the five or six tracks in and out...
I bought a weekly season ticket today onboard the train. The GM traincard.
Not only has it gone from being credit card sized to now being as long as an A4 piece of paper (which I dare say will not last a week without being ripped), but the QR code printed on it (or whatever type of code it is)...
I couldn't disagree more.
Granted, services were limited and some stations didn't have any service at all. But that's what a strike is supposed to achieve isn't it...
As a customer/passenger I was really pleased with their efforts and communication.
I think considering the strike...
As a passenger I would say that Northern impressed me with the pre-planning they made. Plenty of services ran and it was great to see information about timetables being published in advance.
I would say that it wasn't the disaster day that the Unions were hoping for.
Or, just have a camera at each end of the train (like Manchester's Metrolink) pointing down the train, so effectively looking at each other. If the sun is shining in one, it's unlikely to be shining in the other...
I was on the 07:15 you mentioned, but boarded at New Mills Newtown. The rear coach of the two-car set had engine failure, probably due to low coolant. It was decided to make the train express to Manchester once it got to Stockport, therefore missing out on Heaton Chapel and Levensulme. The train...
From what I understand, the tickets sold on the Northern app are time restricted. So you can only purchase tickets in advance of a train departing (I think 30 minutes).
I believe this is to deter people from trying to purchase a ticket only if they see the guard approaching. This is something...
Interesting article from BBC Fact Check:
"Despite union claims, there’s been no increase in injuries at stations over the past 10 years"

I think one train a day in each direction calls at Ardwick. You'd have to be pretty smart to outsmart the authorities by planning your life around this stations timetable.
And based on the locality, you'd then have to negotiate getting to and from the the city proper with your life still intact.
