12:49 Leeds to Carlisle - Seats available?

Well actually I believe you can make seat reservations when travelling on Priv.. . provided you are travelling Standard Class, which you must be as trains on the S&C don't provide 1st class travel. Further you should find that seat reservations should be issued to you for free, this was part...

    All Eurostar services suspended

I find it quite amazing that Euro-Star are unable to "think out of the box" - They appear to have no strategy for such events - other than "Here is your money back - now please go away" I wonder how full the Harwich-Hoek ferry was on Saturday night? Or indeed the day and night sailings...

Swiss railways achieved PPM of 96.8% in 2014

I once attended a presentation at the IRSE by a representative of Swiss Railways (SBB-CFF-FFS). The on-time measure in Switzerland is apparently not calculated at the end of the journey "trains final destination" - like here in the UK, but at every station that the train calls on its...

    FIP Discount Eurotunnel

Most of the ferry companies will usually try and find 'some' for those with rail facilities. safeguarded active enjoy free to I.O.M. with Steam Packet. Port tax £5. When I travelled with Steam Packet they let me take the car for another fiver.:D

    FIP Discount Eurotunnel

I believe you will find that there is no formal discount on Eurotunnel with FIP. In fact most (if not all) of what you pay using FIP on Eurostar is for the Eurotunnel toll.

    Dutch flyer - some facts

I used the ship for a long weekend in the Netherlands last year. Out Friday night, back Sunday night. I found both ships in the general public areas to be reasonably clean. My cabin (with window) was spotless and on both crossings I was given a cabin that could sleep 5 - so lots of space...

    Australia NSW Trainlink

When I did Sydney - Canberra & return in 2005 it was a 2 car DMU. The seats were reversable so that all faced the direction of travel. I travelled 1st class and yes there was possibly extra leg room. The key thing I remember was that 1st class passengers had 'first pick' from the dinner...

Season ticket holder claimed over £1000 in delay repay in 2014

If this were the 17.30 from St Pancras on the Thameslink line with 'only' 15,000 on board it would seem to indicate that once again our wonderful 'new operator' of this diabolical service has yet again only managed a 4 car unit!

Thank you for your reply, which is interesting as at the same time as posting in this forum I parallel procesed by emailing DSB with this question: Hello, I am employed in the UK (ATOC/GBPR) rail industry and enjoy travel via the FIP agreement (Coupons and 50% reduction) on DSB services...

    FIP trip to Switzerland

Correct if you travel from Paris to Basel with TGV you are making an 'international journey' and SNCF coupons are not valid, you will have to purchase a FIP Global Fare. HOWEVER, if you travel on the same TGV from Paris Lyon but alight at Mulhouse then you will be making a french internal...

FIP ticket Zurich Airport to Frankfurt Airport

Accepted, except that this advance fare may have a restriction that you have to travel by a 'booked train' otherwise the ticket becomes invalid. And by its name advanced means if you change your mind and don't travel then there is perhaps the chance of no refund or with a service-charge...

    Etcs

Yes a basic artical. But not actually quite correct. The first ETCS level 2 was not actually Mattstetten-Rothrist. Prior to this there was a trial at Sursee on the Zofingen-Luzern line. 'L' type signals were removed and ETCS level 2 controlled trains on this section. With the controlling...

    Swiss InterRail Question

for BLS on SBB lines suggest you look on the back of an old BLS FIP coupon. SBB should also be valid on Bern - Luzern route via Wolhousen. Also on the line from Bern to Biel. And you should be able to use BLS or SBB on the Thun - Brig section regardless of via Visp or via Goppenstein...
