Sounds like someone is a little bit bitter? My experience of the assessment day was positive, the people that needed to be cut got cut. It’s a difficult job to get into and if you didn’t make it past the first two assessments I’d suggest it’s not the job for you.

TOCs have different requirements and nobody really knows what each’s pass marks are. I do however know that Northern require enhanced on the paper tests but only national on the computer tests. 1770295151 https://www.theopc.co.uk/files/ADVICE_Train_Driver_Standards.pdf Whilst most TOC’s say...

LNER - Train Manager - Recruitment Discussion

Do you want to be a Train Manager? If the answer is yes, then apply for it. If it's no, and you are only doing it in the hope of getting a drivers job I wouldn't recommend it. Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Recruitment Discussion

Get a good nights sleep the day before. Don’t try and blend in to the group, you need to stand out (but without being overbearing) Genuinely I didn’t prepare anything as I didn’t know what the assessments would be. The assessment day tests are clearly done to assess your team working skills...

A career as a train driver

It very much depends, most TOC's recruitment takes forever from what I've gathered, however, not all. I have been super lucky in that I applied on 2nd October, passed everything including medical by the 15th December and had my contract with start date before Christmas. I start in April, but...

Have you got offers from all 3? If not I’d stay in the running for all of them and only withdraw from the others when you have a firm offer

Northern - Trainee Train Driver - Recruitment Discussion

4 months and no issues whatsoever. They gave me a preliminary course date which was 5 months away, I then had to get my medical and contract before I could hand my notice in, fortunately that happened to give me the full 4 months to play with. By the time the contract comes it had firmed up the...
