I did the ‘Grand Tour’ (anti-clockwise) a couple of years ago, staying overnight at the Morar Hotel, a short train ride from Mallaig, which is very reasonably priced. I took a taxi in Skye.

I’ve done the Far North line in the past, and I don’t want to double back such a long way.

I’ve had a couple of interesting evenings pencilling in a draft itinerary. This includes a couple of short double backs and bus/taxi/walks in order to achieve the main objective. It does look like it’ll take 8 days. I’ll need to revisit this before I go next year, in light of timetable changes...

A summary of your route would be interesting, but no rush, as I’ll probably not be doing this until next Spring. Similarly to yourself, I Inter-Railed around Europe in pre-internet 1981 armed only with a copy of the Thomas Cook International Timetable. I did several overnight couchette journeys...
