Swiss "mountain railways included" hotel offers

The Engadine card is very worthwhile. You can use it on some otherwise very expensive cable cars.

    EMR First Class Food

It might be the excuse, but rather defies physics. A few minutes loss of chiller power will have little effect on the temperature of the contents. Unless the chiller cuts out and never restarts.….

    EMR First Class Food

Just to make clear, this is the offering during the week as well, plus the normal shortbread, cake, crisps, tea/coffee and a bottle of water. Someone next to me was charged extra for a coke/pepsi! This on a 222.

    EMR First Class Food

Minor I know given all the other woes on the EMR intercity routes, but their new food offering is vile. They now offer snack boxes instead of sandwiches. As far as I can tell they are designed to be stored without the need for refrigeration. My wife and I selected the cheese offering. There was...

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

I travelled to St Pancras and back yesterday, both on 222s. They both lost time around Luton with the train ambling along. Further north things ran at the expected speeds.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Couldn’t you get off at Leicester (about 1 hour) and then catch the next train to Sheffield half an hour later?

Is there any information on what the major failure modes are?

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

Don’t ASLEF want rid of the HSTs in Scotland because they offer little driver protection. Can’t see them being happy about them continuing in service.

    RhB signalling question

The Swiss RhB has a lot of single track sections with passing loops. Other than the red signal for the train waiting in the loop, is there any other form of protection to prevent a train entering an occupied section and meeting something coming the other way?

Are the train failures largely off the wires?

EMR to introduce reduced Inter City service from Monday 20th July

Would it be feasible for the Sheffield services to include a call at Market Harborough? Passengers using this station have little alternative. Their service has suffered the intended cancellations, but are also suffering extra ad-hoc cancellations.

Hitachi’s manufacturing staff and their maintenance staff are two different sets of people. Probably all they share is the company name, and that neither were Hitachi that long ago.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Depends on what budget and maintenance specifications Hitachi have been given by the DfT via EMR. There’s a world of difference between proactive maintenance and only fixing what has immediately failed.
