    Caledonian Sleeper

They were missing as they didn't leave Fort William on Thursday night, and there wasn't the usual swap in London so a full set went to Glasgow. The Highland sleeper was 12 coaches into and out of London on Friday, and the Lowland sleeper was 16 coaches in and out of London.

    Progress with 345 071 - 345 080

There are eight sidings at Plumstead, three at Shenfield, and six at Maidenhead. Also Gidea Park and Ilford.

    Round UK ‘circumnavigation’ by train

In some ways, an all line rover is overkill unless you intend to spend all day going on long distance trains. For example, the time in Scotland is cheaper, and potentially just as flexible on a cheaper Highland Rover. Similarly there are day tickets covering Cornwall. The 'trunk' journeys can...

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

As easy to get to East Grinstead from Gatwick (500) or Three Bridges (281, 291, 400) on Metrobus, as to use the replacement buses.

    Day-Flex Single tickets

So train fares vary by day on regional flows in the future? Certainly a novel concept.

    Day-Flex Single tickets

This is I imagine the trial we have been expecting for a while of the 'LNER fares model' on another operator, as the new approach for regional fares. See https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/further-fares-reform.294030/#post-7527489 Advance, anytime and 'something in the middle' that isn't...

Next priority project: Requadrupling the MML- Wigston to Syston.

Derby / Sheffield trains call at Bedford on Sunday mornings during the two-track railway period. However, I am not sure that four tracks through south Leicester is the thing that unlocks easier journeys from Flitwick to Derby.

Anytime Single Leuchars to Falkirk same price as Anytime Return ?

It is an artifact of how off-peak fares were set by British Rail.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

In a way, that is a positive move, as it now takes the dispute into the public view, rather than simply being an uncertainty. You really do wonder why a Labour government is holding firm on driver only operation and not authorising the recruitment of guards for this service.

Should PAYG fares for HS1 between St Pancras and Stratford be harmonised?

There are apparently around 8,600 people who live in Stratford East Village. Some presumably work in the Kings Cross area and are happy to pay for the quick connection, but DfT / Southeastern will have weighted up the positives and negatives of allowing too many people to use it for random...

Should PAYG fares for HS1 between St Pancras and Stratford be harmonised?

It seens to me that the premium cost is a form of rationing to prevent the trains being overloaded from St Pancras. It wouldn't be great if passengers from Kent were unable to board because of short distance travellers between St Pancras and Stratford. It isn't really confusing. It is just a...

The standard, and availability, of off-train refreshments has changed since the days when catering was provided on such trains.

    Lumo's poor service in general

With the timetable requiring four units in service, and a need for routine maintenance, finding time to also correct the poor condition is going to be challenging.

Last trains to be put into a non-GBR livery, and hence/also the last trains to be put into the GBR livery?

Given that the GBR livery seems likely to be applied using vinyl coverings in most cases, there is unlikely to be a direct link between the last train receiving a different livery and the last train vinyled. On that basis, application could actually be quite quick, rather than having to wait...
