What about Colchester to Brightinsea? The roads get quite congested around that area. I read the line actually made a profit but was closed because of the cost of maintaing the swing bridge.

The ferry idea could be good. I could go from Harwich. I've done the channel tunnel before to Paris. I found the journey through France quite scenic. Although perhaps I'm easily pleased.
