    ECML Significant Disruption

Just thought i would put my story on here aswell. I was on a Virgin train from birmingham heading for Edinburgh where i would change and head to inverness. we left birmingham at approx 11:00. just as we were approaching leeds the conductor announced over the tannoy that this train will be...

Can anyone solve a conundrum please - what is this?

You are all correct. These are called datum plates. The red block on them indicates the height of the rail. The plates also have details of what the cant is and the distance from the plate to the running edge of the closest rail. They are commonly found on platforms but are also on bridges sign...

    Help with scottish locations

Inverness is not bad for freight, DRS have quite a new yard beside the train station and DBS have a yard there aswell, mostly 66's been used and the sleeper is pulled by a 67. theres also a couple of independant snow ploughs stabled in the yard.

Lowest number of passengers per train service

i dont know numbers of passengers but i would imagine georgemas junction would have a pretty low ratio of passengers per service. just looked on wikipedia and in 07/08 there were 893 passengers, with 16 stops daily mon - sat and 4 on a sunday. this equals 100 stops a week. i will let someone...

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

if dbs were going to be scrapping it they would have cut it up and taken it out in bits in the past week. dbs are only leaving it on site just now because they want it out in one piece, to do this they need to get a bigger crane in which needs a new access built into the site which we reckon...

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

this should be my last update for 3 or 4 weeks when the engine will be getting lifted out. our 800 tonne crane lifted everything out today apart from the engine and a couple of containers that are down the embankment. the main line is clear throughout the station and services should be running...

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

freezing, even through the day its about -6/7. but luckily the station is unmanned and we use it as a bothy anyway for the PWay. makes it bearable.

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

it actually did it. signaller pulled the lever a little bit too early. i got the pic from someone in my office. the date on the pic is the 31/5/99 and the number on the front is 170 401. i think he said it was on the aberdeen to inverness line.

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

freezing is just a term used. the diesel actually turns in to a waxy like substance clogging up all the filters and injectors. modern cars are less likely to do this as they have a fuel heater in them and the deisel bought at a petrol station has more additives in it.

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

although i have been at the derailment everyday since it happened i havent ventured to the south end of the loop so i am not sure where the signal is. but i do know that the south end points are on a slight curve. but anyway to keep everyone updated on the progress. the 2 rail cranes have not...

    Freight train derailment at Carrbridge

me been a PWay man im not to sure what its for. i dont think its for protecting the line south of carrbridge, the engine was derailed on the run out switch at the north end on the up loop which i would presume is to protect the line going south.
