After many years of linesiding, casual observation when walking et. and travel on the WCML i have never recorded seeing 390039. Does anyone have any information at all about this unit?
Orange streams are/were common in mining areas when there was uron in the coal seams, They abound in the Wigan area. One was even called "Yellow Brook"
Bull Hey, Wigan CC ground adjacent to the WCML just north of Wigan NW. In steam days the play was often obscured by thick exhaust as trains got to grips on the 1:104 gradient out of the station.

I remember having to run the full length of platform 11 at Man Vic to Exchange to make a connection. Got it just in time. Also got soaked from an overfill on the water troughs at Lostock that day.
I was in Paignton last year it didn't seem all that bad. If you think it is you want to visit Wigan, Bolton, St Helens or other post industrial Lancashire towns. You would then think Paignton is lovely.
