Quite a lot of people use a form of their name as their email address - and if their name appears to be gender specific, I can imagine whoever sending the email making a guess as to the gender of the person they were writing to.
I was tempted to make a similar reply - for example, I don't think that there are tickets between Walton (Merseyside) and Rice Lane, or between Windsor and Eton Central and Windsor and Eton Riverside. But are there any journeys <edit> without fares </edit> that someone reasonably sensible might...
This can't possibly be right. As a matter of how English is written, if the brackets are taken as defining an alternative then if you remove everything in the brackets, you are left with
Which makes no sense - you can't have 'either x or null'.
And if you don't like that argument, what's a...
You need to be prepared to wait for up to six months. That's quite a long time, so that's another reason to try and stop stressing about it: it won't do you any good to try and keep this level of concern up for so long.
(1) per the second quote in the original post
T&C's and Passenger Charter say:
So they don't insist on a photo of the ticket - there are other options
(2) And anyhow, my understanding is that barriers are always staffed - so there's always someone you could either ask to get the ticket out...
My recollection (also unproven) is a little different. There were certainly some postings huffing and puffing and proclaiming innocence - but my recollection is that no one ever came back to us to tell us that GA had accepted that there was no case to answer.
As always, I'm happy to be corrected (ideally with links to the appropriate threads) but it's very much my impression that all the queries we get after a trawl amount to 'I've been caught, what should I do?' We don't seem to get any saying 'why, when all my travel is legitimate. have I been sent...
As you said in post #54
What you're suffering from at the moment is the guilt that goes with being caught. At the very least you will be feeling silly because you will have believed that you would get away with fare dodging - so not only has the fact that you were doing wrong been drawn to your...
We're not actually here to do the TOCs' work for them. Although as an argument that might have the same result, I do begin to feel uncomfortable when posters ask us for ways to avoid the consequences of their actions. But if that's what it feels like to me, it's open to me to not comment.
They're unlikely to look at your Oyster Card use - but we can't be certain that they won't.
In any case, you've already used the Oyster Card, so there's nothing you can do about it right now. When the railway write to you, read the letter very carefully (and it could be a good idea to share it...
Although you need to know that if it does go to court, you would end up with an expensive fine, and for certain jobs etc. which require a high level of honesty you would have to declare it to an employer.
So while we have seen more serious cases, don't think you can ignore it or treat it...
Will you still have access to your current address? For example, is it your parents' address? If so, just ask them to forward any letters to you.
And the admin fee is for the whole thing, not per ticket.
I think that GWR's usual approach is to
- work out what you should have paid if you had bought Anytime singles for all the journeys you made
- take off what you did pay (n.b. I am not 100% sure that they are this generous - I am open to correction)
- add an admin fee of maybe £200 or so.
I also...
Welcome to the forum. You might find it worth looking at GWR's revenue protection policy at https://www.gwr.com/-/media/gwr-sc-website/files/policy/revenue-protection/gwr-revenue-protection-policy-august-2026.pdf. In particular have a look at page 7
but also pages 12 and 13
