Would it be feasible to remanufacture the Class 707s (once / if no longer needed by Southeastern) into some extra 700s for Thameslink?
30 5-car 707s means 60 driving motor cars and 90 intermediate trailers.
From this you could make 15 8-car 700/0s (using 30 driving motor cars and 90 trailers)...
Are you sure that isn't just some of the units that have had a partial interior refit (moquette etc) but not a full refurbishment/repaint? They have been knocking around for a while in this configuration.
Although I really like the CR4000s, and am not a huge fan of the Variobahns (they look ugly IMHO), ordering more for a unified fleet would make sense. The current mixed fleet setup is somewhat bizarre particularly with different lengths and door positions.
It’s not just road or rail. Almost ALL infrastructure in this country is neutered by nimbys, lunatic pressure groups and the spineless politicians who pander to them. Third runway at Heathrow a good example. Should have been built years ago.
Does anyone know the correct way to touch out/validate when changing from Overground (Oyster) to SWR at Clapham Junction, to avoid being charged a maximum fare?
I take the Overground from Olympia and then SWR to Southampton, and I’ve tried using the pink validators on the Overgound platforms...
Anyone else think 5 units is cutting it a bit too thin? A 30-minute service will require 4 units during the peak, leaving just one unit spare (i.e. not even a full 4-car train). I would have thought an extra unit (for a total of 6) would have provided more resilience for when things go wrong.
Noticed from 0:20 in this video that Celia Drummond's voice is used for the announcements, presumably recorded before she passed away earlier this year. One of the best railway voices IMHO.
Don’t wish to go too far off topic but one of the USB ports on one of the electric Enviro200 MMCs on the 521 severely damaged my previous iPhone. It fried a component (Tristar IC chip) which left it unable to take any charge and had to have the chip replaced.
I was able to narrow down the exact...
In terms of social media accounts / domains I note that @GBR on Twitter is already taken by a record company, and gbr.co.uk is also taken by a placeholder. Although they could use a .gov.uk domain like tfl.gov.uk
National Rail would be a perfectly suitable name IMHO. It is already well established and is sufficiently vague in terms of whether the “nation” refers to England or GB/UK that it wouldn’t run afoul of the current devolution fad.
