Are you sure that isn't just some of the units that have had a partial interior refit (moquette etc) but not a full refurbishment/repaint? They have been knocking around for a while in this configuration.

Although I really like the CR4000s, and am not a huge fan of the Variobahns (they look ugly IMHO), ordering more for a unified fleet would make sense. The current mixed fleet setup is somewhat bizarre particularly with different lengths and door positions.

They have the best front design of all the Aventras IMHO. The 345s are the worst with the "fish" look.

Does anyone know the correct way to touch out/validate when changing from Overground (Oyster) to SWR at Clapham Junction, to avoid being charged a maximum fare? I take the Overground from Olympia and then SWR to Southampton, and I’ve tried using the pink validators on the Overgound platforms...

Anyone else think 5 units is cutting it a bit too thin? A 30-minute service will require 4 units during the peak, leaving just one unit spare (i.e. not even a full 4-car train). I would have thought an extra unit (for a total of 6) would have provided more resilience for when things go wrong.

National Rail would be a perfectly suitable name IMHO. It is already well established and is sufficiently vague in terms of whether the “nation” refers to England or GB/UK that it wouldn’t run afoul of the current devolution fad.
