In the 70s, there was certainly a sign by the tracks at the Banbury end of Oxford (railway) station that said something like all passes/authorisation must be shewn. The psalter I sang from as boy chorist also used shew/shewn.

This is not far from Leominster; about 2 miles according to OS. The train would already have been slowing as it was due to call at Leominster. If it had been a non-caller, the results don't bear thinking about.

Just caught the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin today , and there are loads of 197s parked up in the sidings along the quayside. Does anyone know why ? It reminds me of the last time we went, but then it was 175s packed en masse.
