Yes. Went on it once, and luckily got a front seat.

    Seaspeed hovercraft

From autumn 1979 to late summer 1980, I lived in Boulogne-sur-Mer and used the hovercraft and ferries quite a bit. When the wind was in the right direction, you could hear them all across town, coming and going. The French vessel was quite impressive, but very unreliable and spent what seemed...

Why are some coach letters skipped on trains with lettered coaches ?

I distinctly remember bringing a school group back from France. We were booked on an HST from Paddington to Hereford. A nice chap from the Paddington staff took us early down to the platform so that we had priority boarding. We were booked on coach E. In rolled the train : A;B; C; D; F; G ...

Is Transport for Wales nationalist? Could its operations be redistributed?

I use the trains from Leominster. I rather like the Welsh announcements. I'm slowly learning something new, always a good thing in my book.

Usage of American English words on the British railway network

In the 70s, there was certainly a sign by the tracks at the Banbury end of Oxford (railway) station that said something like all passes/authorisation must be shewn. The psalter I sang from as boy chorist also used shew/shewn.

Could the Marches line be upgraded to W12 gauge?

I doubt whether Dinmore tunnel would be easy

Chiltern Railways selected as operator for the first stage of East West Rail - Oxford to Milton Keynes

It's a pity they did't join up the dots then. I suppose it was heading towards peak car time.

TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

TfW's information leaves a lot to be desired. Thank goodness for knowing about RTT. I was planning on catching the 14h20 from Leominster to Hfd for a hospital appointment. Fortunately, I was half an hour early, and saw that the delayed Milford Haven train was due at 14h00. There was a lot of...

    Class 80x / IET Hate

I was perfectly mobile with no issues until, on the first of April (!), my wife and I caught a GWR 80x from Newport to Paddington. The train was quite full, so seating choice was limited. I ended up sitting on a seat with completely collapsed base, with the two metal bars much in evidence...

    SNCF staffed rural stations.

A group of 7 recently caught the train from l'Argentière-les-Écrins to Gap and back. The fare should have been close to 150€, but the small station was staffed, with a functioning ticket office. He was determined to find a better deal, and came up with a day group pass for départements 05 / 04 -...

FirstGroup apply for Hereford to Paddington via Bristol Parkway and Cwmbran

Extend it to Shrewsbury with stops at Leominster, Ludlow and Church Stretton. Bingo ! Shrewsbury has direct London trains again.

Collision with tractor near Leominster (22/05/25)

This is not far from Leominster; about 2 miles according to OS. The train would already have been slowing as it was due to call at Leominster. If it had been a non-caller, the results don't bear thinking about.

CAF class 197 Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Just caught the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin today , and there are loads of 197s parked up in the sidings along the quayside. Does anyone know why ? It reminds me of the last time we went, but then it was 175s packed en masse.
