In post #9 you mention travelling through 'a lot of tunnels'. If you'd come from Sheffield you'd have gone through Totley and Cowburn and just after New Mills there's Disley (if going towards Hazel Grove).

Is via Marple not a quicker direct route from Sheffield to Manchester? I was listing proposed end-to-end services. There could still be an additional Manchester - New Mills stopper.

As an aspiration (how practical in terms of pathing is another matter) you might introduce a fourth service per hour between Piccadilly and Sheffield and have say: 1 x non-stop, via Marple (TPE) 1 x call Stockport only (EMR) 1 x call all stations via Marple to Chinley, skip the five Hope Valley...

The late afternoon service has a 12 minute layover at Llandrindod on Mon-Sat (providing it's on time) There's a public toilet on the street just outside the station I believe.
