I think it’s just route retention for the crews. It’s been only that train for around 20 years now. Others do occasionally traverse the curve if there is say a problem with equipment in the rear cab.

No point being hacked off. You would’ve known from the time the first spade went into the ground that it was a sustainable development as that was the only way planning permission was obtained. Just need to be less reliant on your own car.

Yes it’s like this on a daily basis and exactly what I have witnessed along with what’s relayed from ex-colleagues working trains through it too. It really is such an asset to the local area and I have nothing but positivity about it.

Because so many travel to the biomedical campus to/from London too and the non-stop services are a boon for them too. On top of that with the nature of cycling around Cambridge it is now perfect for commuters bound for the capital who live around Trumpington, Cherry Hinton & other areas south of...

It’s doing phenomenally well and will in my opinion thrash its estimated 1.8m annual passenger target.

Will be interesting to follow the Birmingham to Manchester Airport via Stoke/Crewe LNR service. Will serve such a more important market than just the Northern service it replaces.

Although no social media then the complaints were prolific in the railway press and no doubt the regional passenger complaints departments.

Even in Regional Railways (& into Central Trains) days it wasn’t uncommon for single class 153s to be diagrammed to operate this route. It’s been rather an overlooked line and unfortunately I can’t see much changing in the foreseeable.
